Primary Care Manager

Des Moines University (DMU) is seeking a Primary Care Manager to oversee operations of the Primary Care Clinic, including Family Medicine, Osteopathic Manual Medicine (OMM), and future service lines. The role focuses on program development, strategic implementation, financial management, quality improvement, clinical excellence, patient/family experience, community outreach, partnership relations, and advocacy. The Manager ensures efficient clinic operations, high‑quality patient care, and alignment with DMU’s broader health enterprise, including the Multi‑Specialty Clinic, Student Health Center, and Mid American Rec Plex.

What you’ll do:
  • Lead the development and implementation of strategic initiatives and programs within the Primary Care Clinic.
  • Oversee financial management, including budgeting, cost control, and resource allocation.
  • Integrate and coordinate clinical operations for Family Medicine, OMM, and new service lines as they are added.
  • Collaborate with the Primary Care Department Chair and other university clinical leaders to ensure seamless operations across the institution’s health enterprise.
  • Ensure clinic staffing needs are met, including recruitment, onboarding, training, and performance management.
  • Foster partnerships with public health agencies, community organizations, and other stakeholders to improve community health and patient access.
  • Lead quality improvement initiatives, monitor clinical outcomes, and support clinical excellence.
  • Carry out supervisory responsibilities for direct reports in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws, including interviewing, motivating, training, planning, assigning, directing work, appraising performance, rewarding and disciplining employees, and resolving complaints.
What we are looking for:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Health Care Administration, Nursing, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of operational healthcare experience with proven understanding of clinical operations.
  • At least 1 year of supervisory experience.
  • Experience in Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, Pediatrics, oropathic Manual Medicine preferred.
  • Licensed as a Registered Nurse in the state of Iowa is a plus.
