Overview
Under the supervision of the Coordinator or Supervisor, provides an enhanced level of support for persons experiencing early episode psychosis utilizing the Navigate model. The NAVIGATE Program serves adolescents and young adults within two years of onset of psychosis. The Peer Specialist on the team helps train clients experiencing early psychosis and serves as a role model and advocate in entitlements, self-advocacy, empowerment, daily activities, housing, education, and employment, using a client-centered, youth-friendly, recovery-focused, strengths-based service delivery model.
Duties include a variety of supportive services and direct interventions with consumers in accordance with treatment plans developed by professional personnel. Responsible for carrying out all activities of the program/sub-unit in a manner that fulfills RESTORE’s mission, policies and procedures.
This position is Part Time & 10hr/week

Responsibilities 1:1 Visits- Sharing personal experiences to increase optimism and hope.
- Mutual agreement to meet with clients at the same time each week.
- Accompanying clients to visit schools, campuses, potential places of employment, or other locations to increase the client’s comfort level.
- Providing education about community resources.
- Help the person collect their thoughts and have their voice heard; support the person to understand what is written about them; be present during assessment as a support person.
- Support someone in evaluating and communicating concerns and desired medication changes; assist with planning toward independence in med management and changes.
- Help the person have their voice heard during the treatment planning process (being present, helping plan before the meeting, and/or advocacy); support changes to the plan as desired; advocate to keep goals aligned with recovery-oriented approaches.
- Facilitating illness self-management groups, peer support groups, and family support groups. Co-leading activity groups such as healthy living, yoga, artwork, community outings, music, and cooking.
- Advocate for the person’s voice to be heard in the process; stay with them as a support during meetings and assessments; help gather information, understand what is happening, and plan next steps; help them understand their rights and manage personal belongings; assist with pet care, bills, and related tasks.
- Help present WRAP plans/Advanced Directives; assist in educating their lawyer; plan what to say when testifying on their own behalf.
- Accompany them to court; testify as an advocate if it may help.
- Encourage potential participants to join the program; provide outreach and aid in recruitment.
- Attend conferences in the community to increase awareness of services.
- Demonstrates UnityPoint Health Values and Standards of Behaviors; adheres to policies, procedures, and safety guidelines.
- Maintains regular, reliable attendance to meet department business needs.
- Maintains current licenses and/or certifications required for the position.
- Practices HIPAA and other regulatory requirements guiding the organization.
- Completes annual education and competency requirements as required.
