Customer Service Representative

Position Description

At Mercy One Central Iowa, health care is more than just a doctor’s visit. Our mission is to improve the health of our communities, not only when one is sick but also by keeping people well. Mercy One is one of Iowa’s largest medical centers, and you will provide coverage for the call center, answering multiple phone lines, transferring calls, taking accurate messages, and providing test information and results.

You’ll use Cerner, Atlas, Star, Gajema, Docuware, and Microsoft Office products to complete daily work.

Responsibilities
  • Answer phone requests for test results to physicians and other healthcare personnel, and call results to ordering provider.
  • Ensure accurate electronic documentation of calls, faxed reports, etc.
  • Print, fax, and file lab reports for courier delivery, and prepare reports for mail as needed.
  • Page couriers for stat and routine pick-ups, and assist in additional courier duties.
  • Review reports for missing information to correct.
  • Retrieve and review original physician orders for demographic information.
  • Work with other departments to problem‑solve and provide timely results.
  • Understand Lean/Six Sigma principles and employ them to meet quality‑management goals.
Qualifications
  • Driver’s License required.
  • One‑year experience in a client services/clerical position preferred.
  • Previous laboratory experience preferred.
  • Computer experience preferred.
  • Proof of completion of Mandatory Reporter abuse training for child and dependent adult abuse within three (3) months of hire.
  • High school diploma or G.E.D. preferred.
