Job Summary

7S is a cardiac telemetry unit specializing in heart failure management. Nurses on the unit are trained to care for patients with Ventricular Assist Devices (VADs), gaining valuable experience in advanced cardiac therapies. New graduate nurses can expect to begin VAD training after six months on the unit, while experienced nurses receive VAD training after orientation. This unit also manages a variety of cardiac drips following specific order guidelines, offering excellent exposure to a variety of cardiovascular care.

We are looking to hire a Registered Nurse. As an RN at Mercy One, you will provide individualized, high-quality nursing care to patients of all ages, using a team approach to delegate and coordinate patient care. You will work rotating shifts, weekends, and holidays as scheduled.

Responsibilities
  • Assess, plan, and implement nursing care while ensuring patient comfort.
  • Practice safe patient handling techniques.
  • Continuously evaluate assigned patients and provide ongoing treatment.
  • Anticipate, identify, and respond to educational and emotional needs of patients and families.
  • Guide and direct healthcare personnel (e.g., Patient Care Technicians) in caring for patients.
  • Maintain knowledge of equipment set‑up, maintenance, and use (e.g., IV pumps, monitoring equipment, and drainage devices) and utilize safeguards such as IV pump drug library and monitor alarms whenever available to maximize patient safety.
  • Initiate emergency support measures (e.g., cardiopulmonary resuscitation, protecting patients from injury).
Schedule
  • 36 hours per week
  • 3, 12‑hour shifts
  • Day and night shifts available
General Requirements
  • Possession of a current or compact state licensure as a registered nurse issued/defined by the State of Iowa.
  • Proof of completion of Mandatory Reporter – Child and/or Dependent Adult Abuse training within three months of hire.
  • American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certified within six weeks of hire.
