Position: Renewable Energy Engine Plant Technician ($2,000 Sign On Bonus)

Overview

I. Job Summary:
Manage the Landfill Gas to Energy Facility to maximize production, while ensuring safe work practices, environmental compliance, timely maintenance, compliance with contracts, and coordination with the landfill management and operations. This role acts as a plant owner and is available whenever necessary to meet the objectives of the role and the needs of the facility.

Responsibilities
  • Through thorough evaluation of operational data, plan proper courses of action and maintain ownership for managing production capacity to reduce plant operating expenses while minimizing equipment downtime without impairment.
  • Inspect ongoing activities for safety and environmental compliance, and for adherence to Standard Operating Procedures. Report and develop recommendations for corrective actions for any recurring shutdowns or equipment de-rating, and notify WMRE operations managers if further analysis is necessary.
  • Ensure compliance with all operational requirements of the air permit, which may include task tracking, documentation of SOP compliance, emissions testing, and adjusting equipment to meet emissions limits. Represent WMRE during third-party testing and regulatory inspections.
  • Secure, manage, and coordinate all third-party vendors for scheduled plant maintenance, unscheduled downtime, compliance, and well-field issues. Regularly communicate with the Market Area Gas Operations Manager (MAGOM) and/or WMRE Operations Manager.
  • Manage relationships with power/gas purchasers as a first point of contact regarding facility operations and scheduling requirements. Comply with power purchase agreements, gas sales agreements, interconnect agreements, or other contracts.
  • Inspect plant machinery and equipment. Repair, maintain, and service all equipment per the facility SOPs, maintenance manuals, and WMRE policies and training. Handle non-routine repairs with sound, immediate judgment without direct supervision.
  • Implement WM and WMRE safety policies and practices for all work activities and ensure these practices are followed by WM staff, vendors, contractors, and visitors to the facility.
  • Complete all mandatory safety and operational training as assigned by the supervisor.
  • Procure plant supplies and replacement equipment efficiently by identifying needs in advance, managing vendors, and adhering to WMRE guidelines, including responsibility for the annual budget.
  • Respond promptly to call-outs of plant shutdowns during non-business hours to identify causes and rectify/diagnose through appropriate repairs or adjustments to return the plant to operation, consulting with WMRE operations managers as needed. Exercise discretion to judge the situation and respond accordingly until needed.
  • Identify backup staff in coordination with the WMRE regional manager and assign call-out schedules to ensure at least one plant manager is available 24/7/365 for shutdowns and emergencies. Adjust on-site presence to reflect time spent on call-outs while ensuring all duties are completed on time.
  • Maintain facility spare inventory and provide a written inventory count twice annually.
  • Schedule and conduct plant tours as requested to support good community relations. Represent WMRE as the on-site technical expert on renewable energy production from landfill gas. Participate in ongoing public relations between the plant and community to foster a favorable outlook of the facility.
  • Participate in public forums to support business development and community education. Support the use of the facility as a marketing platform and supervise such activities. Maintain effective relationships with key political and community decision makers in the region.
  • Complete special assignments/tasks as required by WMRE Operations Manager, Market Area Gas Operations Manager, or Landfill District Manager.
