Summary

The Central Iowa VA Health Care System is recruiting for (1) part-time - permanent Endocrinologist located in Des Moines - IA.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position you must meet the basic requirements as well as any additional requirements listed in the job announcement. Applicants pending the completion of training or license requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Currently employed physician(s) in VA who met the requirements for appointment under the previous qualification standard at the time of their initial appointment are deemed to have met the basic requirements of the occupation.

  • United States Citizenship:
    Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy
  • Doctor of Medicine (MD) or equivalent degree in medicine or osteopathic medicine
  • Degree must have been obtained from a school approved by VA for the year of completion
  • Current full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a U.S. State, Territory, Commonwealth, or District of Columbia
  • Residency Training:
    Physicians must have completed residency approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty program leading to board certification
  • Approved residencies include ACGME or AOA accredited programs or other residency followed by a minimum of five years of verified U.S. practice deemed appropriate by the local Medical Staff Executive Committee
  • Residents currently enrolled in accredited residency programs who meet basic requirements are eligible as Physician Resident Providers (PRPs)
  • PRPs must have a full license and may be appointed on an intermittent or fee basis only; they are not independent practitioners and have a restricted scope of practice

  • Physical Requirements:

    Participation in a pre-employment examination or evaluation will be required
Duties

The Endocrinologist will provide consultation services and follow up of medical subspecialty patients in his or her designated field in the inpatient and outpatient setting at the VA medical center in Des Moines or one of the affiliated Community Base Outpatient Clinics (CBOCs).

  • Provide direct patient care in the area of Endocrinology
  • Educate and counsel patients regarding medical conditions, health status, and the use of prescribed treatment and drugs
  • Ensure high quality patient care is delivered efficiently
  • Collaborate and consult with nursing, social work, psychology, pharmacy, and mental health providers to ensure seamless care
  • For inpatients, collaborate with hospitalists and other team members
  • May supervise or collaborate with Physician Assistants and provide clinical oversight
  • Document patient care in a timely manner as per staff bylaws
  • Other duties as assigned or volunteered for
Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP)

The position is eligible for the EDRP. Applicants must meet eligibility requirements and submit an application within four months of appointment. Award amounts and duration are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office.

Work Schedule

Part‑time: 20 hours per pay period between 7:00 am and 4:30 pm.
