Position: Gastroenterology Physician (Contract Position)

GD Rsources LLC is seeking a Board-Certified Gastroenterologist to provide on-site specialty care for Veterans at the VA Central Iowa Health Care System. The physician will deliver outpatient and procedural gastroenterology services, support inpatient consults, and contribute to the safe, compliant, and high-quality care standards required by the Department of Veterans Affairs.

This role requires strict adherence to VA policies, national clinical guidelines, and facility performance standards. The physician will work collaboratively with VA staff while functioning as a contractor-employed clinician rather than a federal employee.

Primary Responsibilities
Clinical Care (Approx. 99%)
  • Provide comprehensive gastroenterology services in an outpatient and procedural setting.

  • Perform GI procedures including, but not limited to:

    • Colonoscopy (diagnostic, biopsy, polypectomy, bleeding control)

    • EGD (diagnostic, biopsy, banding, polypectomy, bleeding control)

  • Conduct timely consults for ambulatory and non-ambulatory patients.

  • Ensure procedures are completed within clinically appropriate timelines (generally within 30 days of consult).

  • Deliver pre-procedure and post-procedure patient education and follow-up instructions.

  • Manage medications in accordance with VA formularies and protocols (no samples permitted).

  • Maintain accurate and compliant documentation in the VA’s electronic health record (EHR).

Administrative Duties (Approx. 1%)
  • Participate in quality assurance and quality improvement activities as requested.

  • Complete required reporting for patient safety incidents within established time frames.

  • Submit timely documentation, peer review responses, and other clinical evaluations.

  • Attend required meetings or communicate with the COR regarding schedule conflicts when applicable.

Qualifications
Required
  • MD or DO with an active, full, and unrestricted license in any U.S. state or territory.

  • Board Certification in Gastroenterology by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM).

  • Minimum 2 years of recent GI clinical experience
    .

  • Current BLS and ACLS certifications.

  • Eligibility for VA credentialing and clinical privileging.

  • Ability to read, write, and communicate fluently in English.

Credentialing Requirements
  • Completion of VA credentialing and privileging per VHA policy prior to providing services.

  • Ability to pass background checks, NPDB review, OIG exclusion list screening, and clinical proficiency assessments.

Training Requirements

(The VA requires completion of mandatory training; the contractor must complete all assigned items on time.)

Examples include:

  • VA privacy and HIPAA training

  • Ethics and compliance courses

  • Patient safety, infection control, blood borne pathogens

  • EHR training

  • BLS/ACLS (as applicable)

  • Additional required modules communicated by the VA during performance

Health & Immunization Requirements
  • TB screening (TST or IGRA) within the past year

  • Proof of immunity to MMR and Varicella

  • Tdap vaccination

  • Annual influenza vaccination or use of mask during flu season

  • Compliance with CDC and OSHA standards for exposure control

  • Compliance with facility infection control policies

Performance Expectations

The physician must meet all VA performance metrics, including:

  • Timeliness: On-time presence for all scheduled clinics and procedures.

  • Scope Compliance: Work only within approved privileges.

  • Documentation: Complete all clinical notes, consults, and procedure reports promptly.

  • Quality Measures: Meet or exceed standards for FPPE/OPPE evaluations.

  • Patient Safety: Report incidents within 24 hours.

  • Professional Conduct: Maintain behavior consistent with federal healthcare standards.

  • Mandatory Training: 100% completion rate.
