The Safety Officer will serve as the lead safety representative during the construction of a simple-cycle combustion turbine project. The project includes an EPC contractor responsible for engineering, procurement, and construction of a power plant on a greenfield site, along with multiple specialty contractors performing supporting scopes of work on or adjacent to the project site.
This role represents the project owner’s interests and is responsible for overseeing and monitoring contractor compliance with approved safety programs, procedures, and regulatory requirements. The Safety Officer will work closely with the Site Construction Manager and other key project stakeholders to promote a strong safety culture and ensure safe execution of all construction activities.
Key Responsibilities- Review and evaluate contractors’ site‑specific safety plans, procedures, and programs
- Conduct periodic audits and reviews of contractor safety performance, documentation, and records
- Attend weekly project management team (PMT) and construction status meetings
- Participate in and support investigations of safety incidents, near misses, and corrective actions
- Perform regular safety observations and field inspections, communicating findings and recommendations to appropriate personnel
- Support project leadership with additional safety‑related duties as required
- Certification in one or more safety, health, or environmental disciplines, such as:
- Certified Safety Professional (CSP)
- Associate Safety Professional (ASP)
- Construction Health and Safety Technician (CHST)
- Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM)
- Safety Trained Supervisor (STS)
- Completion of a 40‑hour Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response (HAZWOPER) training course
- Minimum of 10 years of experience supporting safety programs on large-scale construction projects
- Strong working knowledge of federal and state OSHA construction safety requirements
- Team‑oriented professional with strong written and verbal communication skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications
