This is an on‑site position at DPS headquarters in Des Moines. Hours are 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM, Monday through Friday.
Starting salary: $41,100.80 plus the State of Iowa Benefit Package.

The Iowa SOR is the central repository for all sex offender records in the state and is governed by state and federal laws. Registration information is submitted by 99 county sheriff’s offices and 8 Department of Corrections facilities. The Specialist manages and maintains the records.
The Specialist reviews electronic and manual registration submissions, creates new offender records, and processes existing registrants. Criminal history, court, and other jurisdictional information is reviewed for accuracy. The Specialist contacts agencies as needed to clarify or correct information and monitors database applications for technical concerns.
Annual SOR record validations are performed as required by state and federal law, ensuring completeness, accuracy, and timeliness. Issues are followed up with registering agencies or the Division of Criminal Investigation as appropriate.
The applicant must acquire IOWA/NCIC Certification within six (6) months of employment; training is provided by the Department of Public Safety.
Additional RequirementsThe candidate must pass a thorough background investigation conducted by Iowa Department of Public Safety Investigators before a final employment offer.

E‑Verify and Right to Work

Minimum Qualification RequirementsApplicants must meet at least one of the following:
- Two years of full‑time experience in general office, clerical, data entry/processing, or related work.
- Two years of education and/or full‑time experience, with thirty semester hours of accredited college or university coursework counting as one year of experience.
- Current, continuous experience in the state executive branch that includes six months of full‑time work as an Administrative Support Assistant 2 or eighteen months of full‑time work as an Administrative Support Assistant 1.
