Position: Mail Clerk 2

Mail Clerk 2 – State of Iowa Executive Branch

Join the Department of Administrative Services (DAS) as a Mail Clerk 2 and play a pivotal role in facilitating efficient mail processing for the State of Iowa. You will support seamless mail operations and make a meaningful impact in government service.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist the state by unloading carts of incoming parcels, federal and interoffice mail and separating by agency.
  • Apply knowledge of current US Postal Services regulations for preparing mail for presentation to the United States Postal Service. Process outgoing federal mail using postage scales and metering machines.
  • Process and apply postage economically, assisting with mail piece design, barcoding, or vendor selection, and correctly bill charges to over 400 separate internal customer accounts.
  • Unload mail from federal equipment and sort and case by building, sort and case incoming and outgoing federal and interoffice mail by agency to approximately 80 mailboxes. Mail may include tax payments, license applications, crime evidence, employment applications, client forms, child support payments or legal correspondence. Knowledge of all agency acronyms, staff and addresses is required for accurate delivery.
  • Remain alert to suspicious packages and letters received from outside, serving as a front‑line defense for elected offices and department heads. When time permits, help customers and perform other mail‑related duties.

Minimum Qualification Requirements
  • One year of full‑time experience processing mail.
  • Current, continuous experience in the state executive branch equal to six months as a Mail Clerk 1.
Additional Qualification Requirements
  • Some positions may require a valid Iowa driver’s license.
  • Some positions may require the ability to pass a background investigation.
