Accounting Manager – Construction and Development

The production accounting manager position is an exempt position. Normal working hours for the team are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. Additional hours as necessary at month end and during peak season.

Position Summary

The Accounting Manager oversees the daily accounting operations for the construction and development business units, ensuring accurate financial reporting, compliance, and strategic support for business units. This role combines technical accounting expertise with leadership and process improvement responsibilities, contributing to the financial health and operational efficiency of the organization.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

1. Financial Reporting and Budgeting

  • Responsible for the preparation of accurate and timely monthly financial statements, along with other financial reports.
  • Prepares and posts general ledger and job cost entries.
  • Determines when accruals and accounting estimates may be required. Presents alternatives for estimate calculations.
  • Reconciles balance sheet accounts and resolves any issues timely.
  • Reviews revenue and expense accounts for proper classification and instructs the business units on proper coding of invoices and transactions.
  • Prepares work papers, schedules, and documentation for investors, lenders, regulators, auditors, and tax preparers as needed.
  • Oversees AIA’s and billings for construction projects.
  • Works with Accounts Payable, business units and other accountants to resolve escalated AR and AP questions.
  • Manages the construction loan draw process with lenders.
  • Works with the business units and members to timely prepare entity budgets.
  • Controls the maintenance of budget templates.
  • Creates and maintains documentation of processes and procedures.

2. Business and Relationship Management

  • Serves as an experienced resource for the business units and other teammates on accounting-related matters.
  • Acts as a key resource for software implementations and integration of business and accounting systems.
  • Diagnoses and resolves system issues in collaboration with the Controller’s, IT departments, and software vendors.
  • Identifies and initiates process improvements and cost-savings opportunities.
  • Follows up with internal and external customers on a regular basis to ensure their business needs and expectations are understood and met.
  • Coordinates and ensures adherence to accounting procedures for assigned responsibilities.
  • Executes responsibilities in compliance with company policies and standards.
  • Provides backup support to other accounting roles as needed.

3. Other duties as assigned.

Requirements
  • Bachelor’s Degree in accounting and/or five years minimum accounting experience required.
  • Demonstrated experience with and job cost accounting required.
  • Proficient with software systems including Microsoft Word and Excel required. Sage 300 (Timberline), Yardi, Procore and/or Sage FAS, a plus.
