Position: Accounting Clerk 2

Responsibilities

The Iowa Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), Division of Administration, Bureau of Collection Service Center (CSC) is seeking an Accounting Clerk 2 to join our team.

  • Accurately sort, open, and scan physical mail using an Opex mail extraction machine and scanner.
  • Print and mail correspondence created by CSS field offices honoring specific legal requirements for proof of mailing and certified mail.
  • Post child support payments to a PC based payment processing system reviewing financial instruments using scanned check images.
  • Perform moderately complex accounting tasks and work of a clerical nature.
  • Locate scanned checks and correspondence to return, rescan, or forward to CSRU field offices.
  • Completes quality review on scanned checks and correspondence.
  • Inputs entries on Iowa Collection and Reporting System (ICAR) for proper accounting of payments.
  • Set up Direct Deposit, Auto Withdrawal, and On-Demand payments.

Qualifications

Graduation from high school or G.E.D. equivalency and two years of clerical accounting experience which involved the compilation, tabulation, examination, verification or recording of financial, statistical or related fiscal data using elementary bookkeeping principles and practices;

  • the successful completion of a post‑high‑school vocational/technical, business college, or area community college curriculum in accounting which included concentrated coursework equivalent to twenty semester hours (or more) in accounting;
  • an equivalent combination of education and experience, substituting one year of employment in clerical office work for each year of the required education;
  • substituting the successful completion of thirty semester hours or the academic equivalent in a post‑high‑school Business, Accounting or closely related curriculum for each year of the required experience;
  • any equivalent combination of qualifying education or experience;
  • employees with current continuous experience in the state executive branch that includes the equivalent of twelve months of full‑time work as an Accounting Clerk 1 shall be considered as qualifying.
