A day in the life of a staff accountant at Graham Construction, a 3G Company: You’ll play a key role in making sure our employees are paid accurately and on time. Each day includes managing payroll, supporting accounts payable and vendor coordination, and working alongside a collaborative finance team in a supportive work environment.
JOB TITLE:
Staff Accountant I with Payroll
PURPOSE:
The purpose of this job is to serve as a member of the finance team who monitors, inputs, and prepare financial records and multi-state company payroll.
What you’ll do:
- Prepare and input full cycle weekly multi-state payroll
- Process garnishments, taxes, and deductions
- Handle payroll account reconciliations
- Maintain compliance with union, federal, and state labor and tax regulations
- Work closely with HR team to ensure great employee experience as related to pay and benefit practices
- Communicate with employees to help answer questions and resolve payroll issues via phone and email
- Communicate on behalf of Graham’s account payables via phone and email
- Monitor potential fraud issues
- Utilize and maintain accurate information in ERP
- Follow Graham Core Process
- Serve as backup for finance colleagues when required
- All other duties as assigned
What knowledge, skills, and abilities you’ll bring:
- Bachelors’ degree in finance or accounting + 1-3 years of related experience or equivalent experience.
- Preferred but not required construction accounting/cost account experience.
- Union Payroll experience preferred
- High attention to detail
- Ability to work independently and complete duties and projects with little direct supervision.
- Must have excellent organizational and communication skills.
- Advanced Excel Experience required
- Ability to accurately work under pressure in meeting deadlines.
- Must have knowledge of basic accounting principles (i.e. journal entries, debits, credits, etc.) and accounting functions.
- Possess knowledge of acceptable and ethical accounting practices
- Preferred experience 3+ years’ experience of preparing payroll
Legal Requirements:
- Ability to work daily and extended hours (as necessary to meet deadlines)
- Ability to take and pass OSHA 30 certification
- This is an onsite role. Must have ability to report to our office in Des Moines IA, office Monday – Friday
- Ability to pass physical capacity profile
