This is a rewarding opportunity for someone who is passionate about making a meaningful and lasting difference in a child’s early educational journey. You will be working 1:1 with a Year 1 pupil with SEMH needs, providing consistent emotional and learning support while building a trusted, positive relationship. This role goes beyond classroom assistance and focuses on helping the child feel safe, understood, and supported throughout the school day.
We are looking for someone who genuinely wants to invest time in building a strong bond and understands the importance of patience, empathy, and consistency. By offering calm guidance and tailored support — including working with non-verbal communication where appropriate — you will play a vital role in shaping the child’s confidence, emotional development, and engagement with learning at a crucial stage of their life.
Key Responsibilities:
* Provide consistent 1:1 support to a pupil with SEMH needs within a Year 1 class
* Support emotional regulation, behaviour management, and engagement in learning
* Work closely with the class teacher and SEN team to implement support strategies
* Promote a safe, nurturing, and inclusive learning environment
* Support communication and interaction, adapting approaches to meet individual needs
The Ideal Candidate Will:
* Be comfortable and confident working with SEMH and SEN pupils
* Have previous experience supporting children with additional needs
* Experience working with non-verbal children is highly desirable
* Be patient, resilient, and emotionally attuned
* Have a genuine passion for supporting young children’s development
