Provides support and assistance to bus operators, monitors bus service and investigates and analyzes situations that affect or may affect bus service. This is a safety-sensitive position, subject to the rules and regulations of RTD’s Drug and Alcohol Policy.

Duties & Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL:

  • Investigates accidents, incidents, disputes, disturbances, and customer complaints as assigned and in conjunction with dispatch and reschedules buses due to these disruptions in service. When investigating accidents, incidents, and potential substance abuse problems, assesses ability of operators to continue in service. Evaluates the severity of an accident scene and determines if the deployment of additional resources is required.
  • Monitors and provides performance coaching to operators and documents outcomes to ensure RTD’s policies and procedures are followed. Provides constructive feedback, positive reinforcement, and recognition in real time. Recommends training, retraining, or other course of action as appropriate, to ensure compliance RTD’s organizational policies and procedures.
  • Coordinates with internal departments and external agencies regarding incidents, accidents, emergencies, road conditions, adverse weather, detours, schedule changes, bus bridges, and other emergent issues in an effort to minimize service disruption.
  • Monitors on time performance, routes and road conditions and recommends alternate routes or suggests service improvements, as needed. Recommends adjustments to running time or additions/deletions to schedules and routes to improve on-time service.
  • Supervises and monitors on-street operation of daily service, special services, special events, construction detours, and unforeseeable events to promote quality service.
  • Participates in emergency preparedness planning, coordination, and response.

Qualifications
  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • A minimum of two years of experience as a bus operator in a full-time capacity or equivalent
  • A minimum of one year of supervision in a street operations role preferred.
  • Must have and maintain current CDL and DOT physical
  • The ability to work unusual hours, split shifts, weekend, and holidays. Due to industry demands you may be required to work/cover shift(s)/stay late/start early on short notice.
  • Proficiency in transit operations environment.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing
  • Ability to use sound judgment
  • Ability to manage time and workload effectively which includes planning, organizing, and prioritizing with attention to details
