** Junior Ski Patrol Volunteer

Summary:
** Copper Mountain’s Junior Ski Patrol program is for high school age students looking to expand their medical experience in a fun, fast paced outdoor environment. While volunteering with Copper Mountain Ski Patrol you will be expected to develop proficiency in mountain orientation, ski patrol procedures, an understanding of the Colorado Skier Safety Act while being trained to assist in providing medical assistance to and evacuation of injured guests, evaluating risk, executing assigned projects and daily duty station responsibilities, equipment maintenance and other assigned duties.
* Must be a proficient skier or rider
* Hold current Outdoor Emergency Care (OEC) certification and current CPR certification
* Must be high school student, between 15
-18 years old and willing to commit a minimum of 2 seasons to the program
* Must be able be available 14 days/season, including three training weekends (First three weekends of December)

* Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
*** Medical: assessment, stabilization/treatment and evacuation of injured guests
* Reporting/Documentation:
Incident documentation and procedure familiarity with computers. Accident reporting additional forms associated with incidents on the mountain
* Managing Risk: i.e. trail checks, trail openings/closings, early season preparation, maintenance, obstacle marking, signage, sweeps, and special race preparation.
* Mountain Orientation:
Learn trail names, lifts and landmarks patrol uses to navigate and communicate the breadth of the mountain efficiently
* Search and rescue:
Participate in drills and assist in execution of rescue if necessary
* Lift evacuation:
Assist distributing lift tickets or guest direction if necessary
* Skier education:
Enforcement of Skier Safety Act, i.e., boundary management, safe skiing, speeder control. Being visible to the public for skier information.
* Training/development:
All staff will participate in continued training and development to demonstrate proficiency in all areas of patrolling. This constant and ongoing process includes medical preparation (medical lectures), terrain management, lift evacuation, mountain/company policies, inter-agency relations and contacts, etc. Ski improvement through all terrain with varying snow conditions.
* Duty station assignments: PHQ, Timberline and Lower Patrol Room
* Integration with other Copper Mountain departments for smoother functioning within the company. Orientation in areas of mountain safety awareness.
Other Duties as Assigned:
* Functions as an ambassador of Copper Mountain, modeling and sharing the Copper “culture” with our guests and employees. Upholds the most professional image. Continually strives to exceed our guest’s expectations and create memories for our guests and staff.
