The RoleAs a Staff Engineer at Candid Health, you'll dive deep into our grittiest and most complex infrastructure challenges, building the critical infrastructure that we need to scale rapidly and meet explosive customer growth. You will own technical bottlenecks related to scalability, performance, reliability, observability and distributed systems; make build‑vs‑buy decisions; architect solutions that improve reliability, scalability, and performance; and have a seat at the table in leadership discussions to advocate for your team and influence the roadmap.
WhatYou’ll Do
- Lead Architecture & Technical Execution:
Transform complex, ambiguous infrastructure problems into simple solutions and create actionable project plans and roadmaps. - Innovate:
Identify new opportunities that drive significant business impact; stay current with technological advancements and evaluate emerging tools that could enhance our infrastructure. - Scale & Optimize Core Systems:
Build robust systems with a long‑term vision, ensuring extensibility, reliability, performance, and scalability of the platform across large volumes of healthcare data. - Mentor and Develop Engineering Talent:
Guide, mentor and develop the next generation of software engineers on advanced technical issues; improve engineering processes and foster a culture of learning and excellence.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s of Science in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Math, or a related degree.
- Technical qualifications:
- 10+ years of experience building software of significant scale and complexity.
- Mastery of software development, system design/architecture and coding.
- Expertise at scaling systems and knowing when to build vs. buy.
- Experience with observability, logging, async event‑driven workflows and distributed systems architecture.
- Deep understanding of Postgre
SQL and how to scale it (sharding, partitioning, query optimization, schema migrations). - Excellent technical vision and the ability to design enduring, scalable solutions.
- Leadership qualifications:
- Track record of driving major business outcomes end‑to‑end, with specific examples of identifying problems, proposing solutions, influencing leadership and delivering projects to completion.
- Skill in making trade‑offs concerning project scope and priority.
- Behavioral qualifications:
- Able to manage ambiguity and deliver results in highly ambiguous environments.
- Customer‑first, learner’s mindset, enthusiasm for teaching others.
- Clear, concise communicator, comfortable explaining complex ideas simply, both in‑person and in writing.
- Commitment to operational excellence.
- Experience with Google Cloud Platform, Big Query, Postgre
SQL, Metabase, Terraform, Python is a plus but not required.

The estimated starting annual salary range for this position is $209,000 to $283,000 USD. The listed range is a guideline from Pave data; the actual base salary may be modified based on job‑related skills, experience, qualifications, interview performance, market data, etc. Total compensation may also include equity, sales incentives (for sales roles), and employee benefits. Candid Health values the potential upside from equity in its compensation package.
