Overview
We are seeking a Software Development Manager to join our growing U.S. team, based out of one of our nationwide offices. Under general direction, the Manager supervises the staff and work production of the US Software Development team, provides leadership, direction, and technical guidance to staff to ensure that quality technical services are provided to clients and that the technical work unit meets its operating performance targets.
The role manages project production, project acquisition/client relations, and financial management of the work unit to ensure quality, client satisfaction, continued production backlog, and profitability of all projects within the work unit.
- Supervises the software development team, helps with career development and training needed to meet delivery requirements and U.S. business goals.
- In coordination with TPO and BU leadership, identifies current and future staffing needs.
- Manages the software development team's productivity, skill sets and opportunities to ensure the right resources for existing and upcoming projects.
- Initiates requisitions and hires new employees, recommends salary levels, and initiates salary and position adjustments for staff subject to senior management approval.
- Conducts semi-annual performance reviews and annual career planning sessions with direct reports.
- Provides staff with ongoing performance feedback and counsel to promote improved performance and career development.
- Helps staff identify and pursue technical and professional development activities consistent with their career goals and work unit objectives.
- Drives a culture of technical excellence throughout the sub-practice by providing growth opportunities and ensuring sound quality control and safety procedures are employed by all staff.
- Ensures appropriate staff allocation to projects considering schedules, budgets, milestones, and work products.
- Monitors compliance with quality control standards and ensures QA activities across the unit.
- Reviews project QC plans and periodic QA compliance audits.
- Assists staff in resolving issues with various business units.
- Serves as key technical point of contact for the software development team.
- Works with Practice and Technical Directors to design and implement development tracks for technical staff, focusing on building excellence at all levels.
- Participates in pursuing new project opportunities by maintaining contact with current and prospective clients.
- Assists sales leads and project managers with staffing pursuits, contract negotiations, and providing supporting project examples and materials.
- Approves purchase requests for capital items as specified in the Authorization Matrix.
- Collaborates with clients and stakeholders to define software requirements and technical strategies.
- Manages the full software development lifecycle, including requirements gathering, design, development, testing, deployment, and maintenance using Agile and Dev Ops practices.
- Designs, develops, and maintains applications across web, mobile, and desktop platforms.
- Integrates data from various sources and APIs, ensuring performance, scalability, and security.
- Analyzes system behavior, identifies patterns, and optimizes application performance.
- Applies software engineering principles to select appropriate frameworks, tools, and design patterns.
- Works closely with cross-functional teams to align development with business goals.
- Contributes to the design and integration of AI-powered features and tools using NLP.
- Performs additional duties as required by supervision.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Mathematics, or a related field preferred;
Master’s or MBA is a plus. - 10+ years professional software development experience post-Bachelor’s or 5+ years post-Master’s, including at least 2 years in a technical lead or supervisory role. Non-degreed applicants with 10+ years experience plus 5+ years leadership considered.
