Bon Appetit Food Sustainability Fellow
Salary: $57,000 - $59,000
Our Passion is Food! At Bon Appetit Management Company we are committed to two things, great food and outstanding service. We operate as a restaurant company in contract food service, with chefs and managers encouraged to stay abreast of current culinary trends and bring cutting-edge food into their cafes. This position is an entry-level, full-time role for recent college graduates, with a primary focus on raising awareness about social and environmental issues related to the food system for guests and employees in the assigned region.
Responsibilities- Visit cafés within the assigned region and facilitate plans to engage the community and culinary teams in discussions about social and environmental issues in the food system.
- Plan dynamic visits to college campuses with the goal of strengthening campus food systems, including classroom visits, farm visits, presentations, and student group meetings.
- Work with a flexible calendar to fit each Fellow’s interaction style, interests, and approach.
- Undertake special projects to advance sustainability commitments (e.g., local purchasing, waste reduction, campus farms and gardens, plant-forward initiatives).
- Write and edit communications materials (blog posts, social media posts, articles) about campus activities, Farm to Fork vendor visits, and other projects; create marketing materials and presentations in Canva to host and promote events.
- 4-year college degree in Environmental Science, Public Health, Communications, Hospitality, Wellness and Nutrition, or related area; or a 4-year degree in another field with strong experience in food systems, sustainability, or related areas.
- Past attendance at a college or university where Bon Appétit managed the food is required.
- Strong interest and experience in sustainable food and agriculture issues; knowledge of environmental, social, and public health issues related to food and agriculture.
- Excellent organizational skills with strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Exceptional oral and written communication skills, including comfort speaking publicly.
- Self-starter who can work independently and collaboratively; ability to think critically and adapt to challenges.
- Ability to spend up to 80% of time traveling; flexible schedule including occasional evenings and weekends; ability to work remotely when not traveling.
