Description

Join the Facilities Management Department on the University of Colorado Denver Campus as a PMT-II Facilities Maintenance HVAC Technician (Housing). This is a full-time state classified position. The role is on‑call after hours, including weekends and holidays, to support 24 hours a day, 7 days a week operations. The technician maintains all facilities and operating systems in safe and efficient working order, operating, monitoring, servicing and repairing a wide array of refrigeration equipment, HVAC systems and associated hardware for all CU Denver campus buildings.

The position responds to emergency calls pertaining to HVAC and refrigeration problems, ensuring the safest and most efficient operation and training of personnel for HVACR systems at CU Denver. The technician records issues, logs work in CMMS, monitors building systems in BAS, and performs various other duties as required.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform corrective and preventive maintenance as assigned.
  • Communicate effectively with vendors and contractors.
  • Maintain reports and inventory via electronic records and database.
  • Operate university vehicles to transport necessary tools/equipment to worksites.
  • Respond to alarms/emergencies and resolve them; set priorities based on urgency.
  • Make necessary changes in BAS to building system operating parameters.
  • Collaborate with team members to improve team performance.
  • Work closely with the supervisor to implement leadership directives.
  • Participate in after‑hours call‑back rotation.
Work Location

Onsite – this role is expected to work onsite and is located in Denver, Colorado.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Must possess a current CFC Universal Certification to work with CFCs, HCFCs, and HFCs.
  • Four years of progressively responsible experience in the HVAC and refrigeration industry, with a minimum of two years working with process chillers.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience entering, updating and modifying information in a database.
  • Experience in refrigeration, including inspecting, replacing, adjusting, and calibrating electronic and refrigeration controls and components.
  • Experience performing mathematical calculations to accurately determine refrigerant amounts.
  • Experience performing preventive maintenance and repairs to HVAC/R systems and components.
