Position SummaryAn electrician, under general supervision and at the journeyman level, assists in the troubleshooting & diagnostics, the repair and maintenance of electrical systems from raw water delivery infrastructure, water treatment plants, pump stations, and hydroelectric power plants as well as common facility low‑voltage electrical systems. This role is considered a journeyman electrician with specialized expertise and knowledge of protective & isolation devices, motors, motor control centers and other electrical distribution system assets in an industrial setting.
A journeyman assists Sr. Electricians in delivering projects, ensuring reliable operation of critical infrastructure coordinating work with other stakeholders to maintain safe and continuous water utility services.
At the senior level, electricians are responsible for troubleshooting & diagnostics, and the repair and maintenance of electrical systems from raw water delivery infrastructure, water treatment plants, pump stations, and hydroelectric power plants up to 13.2kV. This role requires a Master Electrician license with specialized expertise and knowledge of AC & DC systems, protective & isolation devices, motors, motor control centers, and other electrical distribution system assets.
A senior electrician leads projects ensuring reliable operation of critical infrastructure while overseeing journeyman electricians and coordinating work with other stakeholders to maintain safe and continuous water utility services.
A journeyman electrician must have a current working knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NEC), and the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA). A senior electrician must also have a working knowledge of the National Electrical Testing Associate (NETA) MTS standards.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Under the supervision of a Master Electrician, perform and lead complex diagnosis, troubleshooting, and repair on a wide range of electrical equipment including motors, motor control centers, control systems, generators, switch gear, transformers, circuit breakers, protective & motor management relays, and variable frequency drives.
- Under the supervision of a Master Electrician, perform preventive maintenance on electrical equipment up to 13.2 kV to diagnose potential problems related to the equipment’s operation in line with NETA standards.
- Inspect, calibrate, and maintain control systems including motor management relays, variable frequency drives and ensure protective devices such as relays, circuit breakers, surge protectors, motor controllers and human‑machine interfaces are functioning properly to safeguard equipment.
- Installation and of electrical systems and components, including running conduit, wiring, configuring motor control centers, and integrating new equipment or technology upgrades in compliance with electrical industry best practices and standards by the National Electrical Code (NEC), National Electrical Testing Association NETA), National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) along with Denver Water’s Capital Projects Construction Standards (CPCS).
