Salary: $689 - $783 per week

Currently seeking a Retail Supervisor (South Pole Station) – Responsible for the day-to-day operations of the South Pole Station store, including but not limited to the daily stocking of store merchandise, opening/closing of store for business and handling cash through point of sale. Oversees the movement, sorting, and distribution of mail at South Pole Station, Antarctica. Performs a variety of detailed accounting duties in accordance with standard accounting procedures with minimal supervision and guidance.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Responsible for store warehousing operations including all phases of receiving, issuing, storing, inspecting and providing accountability for ASC controlled materials.
  • Ensures that all inventory is received, tracked and verified at time of delivery.
  • Ensures that store and its merchandise are maintained in a professional and eye‑appealing condition.
  • Ensures stock on hand is replenished as required to meet daily demand of merchandise.
  • Assists in the creation of displays and advertisement to maximize sales of store merchandise.
  • Issues and transfers stock from warehouse location to store as required.
  • Responsible for point of sale items, accurately rings up all sales and counts cash drawer following sales periods.
  • Responsible for accurately maintaining accuracy of Point of Sales system, in collaboration with Station Services Assistant.
  • Responsible for maintaining an accurate physical inventory.
  • Responsible for monthly inventory, weekly spot checks and bi‑annual physical inventory of all store merchandise.
  • Collaborates with Station Services Assistant on any sales or donations prior to those activities happening.
  • Maintains open hours for the McMurdo population of at least half of total hours available;
    Station Services Assistant will provide hours of operation. Hours may vary based on station needs.
  • Reduces physical inventory quantities to prescribed levels based on stock demands and historical data.
  • Follows and applies DOD, USAF, PACAF, U.S. Postal Service (USPS), Military Postal Service Agency (MPSA), Joint Military Postal Activity‑PAC (JMPA‑PAC), 6005 AIRPS and PACAF AIRPS directives/policies as they pertain to the Military Postal Service (MPS), Air Force postal operations, and financial issues in the PACAF command in support of the South Pole APO.
  • Controls, secures, and sells all postal stamp stocks and stamped paper necessary for the South Pole APO.
  • Processes and records all United Postal Service insurance claims.
  • Prepares and reviews financial reports, letters, messages, forms, documentation, and source material for proper administration and accounting procedures for the efficient operation of the South Pole Station APO as required.
  • Oversees and trains mailroom personnel as needed.
  • Performs the sorting, receipt, and distribution of mail at South Pole Station, Antarctica.
  • Provides a directory service for all misrouted mail and mail addressed to personnel no longer at South Pole Station.
  • Controls USPS and Air Force‑owned accountable and non‑accountable equipment.
  • Coordinates with the Movement Control Center for outgoing and incoming accountable and non‑accountable mail.
  • Will occasionally need to lift 50‑70 lbs. Will frequently need to lift 40 lbs. Constantly moving 20‑30 lbs.
  • Ensures compliance with Safety, Environment, Health, and Waste Management policies and procedures.
  • Interacts with the National Science Foundation, armed forces, and other agency officials, both over the telephone and in person, in a professional and tactful manner.
