Work Hours:
15-20 hours/week spread over 3 days/week. Must be available at least 2 mornings/week beginning at 7 am.
Positions
Summary:
The DC Dining Team is hiring a team member to support our hospitality services in the lunchroom, coffee shop, and cafe. This is a dynamic role where you will be the face of our community service efforts, interacting directly with students, families, staff, and other community members. All DC Dining Team Members support the overall food production and service with kitchen tasks as needed.
Key Responsibilities:
- Operating a point-of-sale (POS) system/register accurately for all transactions.
- Serving food items to customers following food safety guidelines.
- Operating an espresso machine and mastering drink recipes with speed and accuracy.
- Assisting with light food preparation and kitchen cleaning tasks as needed.
- Maintaining a clean and sanitary dining environment.
- Supervising high school student interns during shifts in the cafe and coffee shop.
Required Qualifications:
- Prior experience as a cashier, in customer service, or in a food service environment is preferred.
- Ability to pass a criminal history background check.

- Food Safety & Sanitation:
Knowledge of proper food handling, storage, and hygiene procedures to ensure a safe and sanitary work environment, on the job training provided. - Basic Food Preparation:
Ability to assist with simple food preparation tasks such as washing/cutting fruits and vegetables, portioning items, or bagging cookies, following established recipes and portion control guidelines. - Cleaning & Organization:
Maintaining cleanliness of the serving line, counter, dining tables, and workstations, including wiping down surfaces, sweeping/mopping floors, and washing utensils. - Inventory Management:
Assisting with stocking condiments, food items, and paper goods, and rotating stock using the "first in, first out" (FIFO) method to minimize waste. - Equipment Operation:
Basic ability to operate standard food service equipment such as point-of-sale systems, warmers, and dishwashers, on the job training provided.

Greeting customers in a friendly, positive, and professional manner, answering questions about menu items or ingredients (e.g., allergies), and resolving minor complaints or issues. - Communication:
Clearly communicating with customers, team members, and supervisors to ensure smooth operations and accurate order fulfillment. - Time Management & Multitasking:
Efficiently managing multiple tasks simultaneously in a fast-paced environment, especially during peak meal hours. - Attention to Detail:
Ensuring accuracy in transactions, food presentation, and cleaning tasks. - Teamwork &
Collaboration:
Working effectively and cooperatively with other DC Dining staff to ensure all tasks are completed and a positive work environment is maintained. - Adaptability & Stress Tolerance:
Remaining calm and effective when confronted with unexpected situations, a high volume of customers, or equipment malfunctions. - Physical Stamina:
Ability to stand for extended periods, bend, lift moderately heavy items, and perform repetitive motions.
Physical Requirements:
- Employee must be able to stand or walk for prolonged periods of time, often an entire 6-8 hour shift.
- Employee must be able to do repetitive motions with hands, fingers, wrists such as operating a computer, preparing drinks and serving food, wiping tables, etc.
- Employee must be able to lift and move boxes and trays weighing up to 25 lbs.
- Employee must be able to frequently bend, stoop, crouch, or kneel.
- Employee must be able to communicate with customers and coworkers verbally in a moderately to noisy work environment.
