Community Services Program Coordinator

The Center on Colfax has grown to become the largest LGBTQ+ community center in the Rocky Mountain region. The Center is a collaborative leader that positively impacts the lived experience of LGBTQ+ people in Denver and Colorado by creating inclusive programs and events, fostering connections, and leveraging the individual and collective strengths of the community. In addition, the Center produces Denver Pride Fest/Parade/Pride 5K, the largest Pride celebration in the Rocky Mountain Region.

General

Description

The Community Services Program Coordinator is an onsite full-time salaried exempt position responsible for assisting with Programming & Community Services (Rainbow Alley, West of 50, The Transgender Program & The Glass Lawler Mental Health Program, etc.). This individual is responsible for assisting and facilitating Community Services programming, providing individualized resource navigation, program support (planning, implementing, assessment, etc.) This position requires skills and background in: crisis intervention, individual support, and knowledge of topics specific to gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender individuals.

This position requires effective communication skills and the ability to work closely with Center staff and the public. This is not a clinical counseling position.

Requirements General Responsibilities
  • Able to work weekday evenings and Saturdays (Typically Tuesday – Thursday 12pm – 8pm and Friday-Saturday 9am-5pm)
  • Participates in regular meetings with Center staff and the programming teams
  • Oversees relevant programming, drop-ins & support groups, i.e. setting up & cleaning up space, setting out supplies, coordinating with facilitators, etc.
  • Assists with recruiting, retaining, and supporting intern staff
  • Works with Program Managers to identify funding needs and priorities
  • Handles confidential and sensitive information without breach
  • Establishes and maintains collaborative & professional working relationships with community partners
  • Assists with the development of flyers, newsletters, programs, calendars, and other printed & advertising materials
  • Represents The Center & relevant programs in the community, i.e. senior fairs, youth events, & general outreach events.
  • Develops appropriate relationships with youth, elders, and support group clients in the space, encourages participation in activities and ensures all feel welcome and respected
  • Assists with all programming during regular drop-in hours and program sponsored events
  • Oversees various data collection methods for volunteers, census tracking and outreach numbers among others
  • Assists with Pride Compass case management by promptly responding to requests for case management services, meeting with participants, providing resources & referrals and working drop-in hours for the program
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work, Human Services, or related field preferred
  • Commitment to the values of inclusion, diversity, equity and accessibility
  • Bilingual (English and Spanish) preferred
  • Awareness and understanding of the issues and needs affecting Denver’s LGBTQ+ community
  • Knowledge of group functions, formation, facilitation, principles, and conflict resolution
  • Experience with community organizing, including forming and facilitating committees
  • Experience with data collection, matrix keeping, and survey administration
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills including presentation and report writing
  • Experience facilitating discussion and activity groups
  • Ability to manage deadlines and diverse workload
  • Ability to be organized to keep track of various projects at once
  • Ability to multitask and work in a fast-paced environment
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Suite and ability to learn new computer skills as needed
  • Must be flexible and adaptable to meet the needs of the Center and its constituents
  • Must possess a proactive and innovative approach to problem-solving
  • Must possess an energetic and enthusiastic attitude to work with LGBTQ+ populations (experience with working with elder LGBTQ+ people, LGBTQ+ youth, and/or LGBTQ+ support groups preferred)
  • Must possess a willingness to be part of a team and work cooperatively with all Center staff
  • Passing a criminal history background check
