The Paint/Coating Journeyman must effectively and safely perform coatings application and all associated phases of industrial coatings.

• Applies coatings to various structures, tanks, piping, and miscellaneous surfaces in accordance with customers' specifications and manufacturers' recommendations.
• Assembles, maintains, repairs, and cleans painting equipment.
• Mixes and thins the coatings according to the manufacturer's recommendations.
• Constructs protective enclosures to avoid overspray of customers' equipment.
• Assists in loading, unloading, and storage of equipment and supplies.
• Performs work safely in the safest possible manner at all times.
• Immediately corrects any unsafe condition.
• Performs on‑site QA/QC functions, including paperwork and evaluation of employees.
• Maintains a clean job site, removing all trash, unused paint materials, etc.
• Cooperates with the Gulf Coast Industrial Project Manager and customers in carrying out assigned work.
• Directs the Helper/Laborer in proper work performance and job requirements.

• The painter must be highly productive, experienced in the multiple crafts involved, and be an expert in the mechanical use of all equipment, materials, and procedures necessary for the safe and effective application of coatings.
• The painter must be proficient in spraying to maintain even mileage.
• The painter must be proficient in the use of a hand trawl and gauge rake for installing epoxy and urethane floor coatings.
• The painter must possess knowledge of and have experience with different coatings (epoxy, urethanes, polyesters, vinyl esters).
• The painter must have knowledge of hazardous waste management.
• The painter must be proficient in all safety aspects of his craft.
• The painter must be proficient in QA/QC requirements of his craft.
