Metro Water Recovery is committed to our employees and their development. Our Plant Operators of all levels go through Metro’s Operator Training Program. All new hires complete their training during the day for optimal exposure to the ins and outs of plant operations. All training is paid and includes the completion of an Associate Degree in Water Quality Management for qualified trainees.
Metro’s Operator Training Program is designed to be completed between nine to twelve months, depending on the trainee’s knowledge, skills, abilities. In addition to Certification Incentives, we have amazing reclassification opportunities that allow our Plant Operators to progress in their career.
- Colorado Wastewater Operator Class A Certification – $4,000
- Class B Certification – $3,000
- Class C Certification – $2,000
- Class D Certification – $500 (one‑time incentive)
** Hiring Bonus and Recurring Annual Incentive
This position will be filled at one of the following levels depending upon the candidate’s qualifications:
Plant Operator IPlant Operator I ($28.53 - $39.80 Hourly)
Performs skilled and unskilled work and tasks required to operate and control the performance of liquid and solids stream unit process equipment. Works under the direction of an Operations Supervisor. May be assigned work by a Plant Operator – Lead.
Plant Operator IIPlant Operator II ($33.28 - $46.43 Hourly)
Performs skilled work with the overall operation of liquid and solids stream treatment facilities. Works under the direction of an Operations Supervisor. May be assigned work by a Plant Operator – Lead.

SPECIAL NOTE: Plant Operator I’s must complete the Basic Operations Module requirements of Metro’s Operator Training Program, including obtaining certifications, within the specified timeframe.
QualificationsPlant Operator I
Knowledge of:
- Monitoring systems/equipment
- Standard Operating Procedures
- Basic equipment inspections and maintenance
- Arithmetic, reading, writing
- Safety practices
- SCADA Systems
- Basic layout of utility feeds to a treatment facility
- MS Office software
Skilled at:
- Troubleshooting operational issues
- Applying SOPs and field data to optimize processes
- Communicating and following direction
- Following instructions, policies and procedures
- Working effectively in a team environment
- Using documentation and monitoring systems
- Managing disagreements and de‑escalating conflict
Ability to:
- Analyze data and communicate them as necessary
- Read and follow technical manuals
- Assist new operators
- Perform math operations with decimals and fractions
- Conduct accurate field observations and sampling
- Learn new tools and procedures
- Remain calm and professional under pressure
Education, Certifications, and Licenses:
High School diploma or GED. Valid and current driver’s license. Colorado Class D Wastewater Treatment Operator or ability to attain it through reciprocity.

Knowledge of:
- Complex monitoring systems/equipment
- Standard Operating Procedures, MOP’s
- Routine equipment inspections and maintenance
- Wastewater treatment principles
- Safety practices and standards
- SCADA Systems
- Basic layout of utility feeds to treatment facility

Skilled at:
- Wastewater treatment operations
- Independently troubleshooting operational issues
- Applying SOPs and field data to optimize processes
- Communicating clearly and following instructions
