- Monday – Friday with occasional Saturdays, working a minimum of four (4) shifts, preferably five (5) shifts each week.
- 4:25 p.m. – 4:35 a.m. (12‑hour shift). Individuals should be flexible to accommodate overtime needs in this role.
As a Material Handler, you will perform line replenishing duties which consist of unloading the freight elevator, stocking lines with ingredients and storing unused ingredients in proper areas in the warehouse. You will ensure the proper scanning of each ingredient is performed.
What Does It Take to be a Material Handler at Dawn Foods?Below are the minimum qualifications to be a fit for this job.
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED) preferred.
- One year’s experience in warehouse or distribution environment preferred.
- Requires oral, written and communication skills.
- Must be able to handle many diversified tasks at one time and correctly prioritize time.
- Must be forklift certified or can become forklift certified.
- 6 months of forklift experience required; 1–2 years of forklift experience preferred.
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
- Basic computer skills.
- Operate forklift, pallet jack and fast jack to move raw materials physically from elevator to lines/storage and electronically using scanner.
- Organize and maintain designated warehouse and production areas for proper ingredient storage in assigned area, including allergen storage.
- Ensure open and/or ripped ingredient bags are labeled appropriately.
- Properly scan raw materials to locations including adjusting inventory to skids when brought to the line and put away.
- Communicate with receiving warehouse in person or via radio on low level inventories, to obtain raw material list for each line and serve as general liaison between the receiving warehouse and line operators.
- Perform cycle counting under the direction of the Inventory Control Coordinator.
- Follow company Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) standards.
- Adhere to GMP, Food Safety, International Food Standards (IFS) and American Institute of Baking (AIB) standards.
- Adhere to the Food Defense and Security functions within the facility.
- Other duties as assigned.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to grasp, move, or utilize objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; and talk and hear. The employee is frequently required to climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee is occasionally required to use sensory perception for quality measurement of products.
- The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 75–100 pounds and frequently lift and/or move 50 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to focus.
- Temperature fluctuates with the season – colder during the winter, warmer during the summer.
- Working around heavy machinery – hearing protection required in production area.
