Description
Shums Coda Associates, Inc. is a privately held company providing professional Building and Safety Consulting Services to clients to verify conformance with Building Codes. We are seeking a Full‑time Conveyance Inspector for our clients in Colorado.
Conveyance Inspectors are highly skilled in performing inspections of both commercial and residential projects, enforcing codes and regulations across a broad range of code sets. The work requires independence, discretion, and finesse.
Responsibilities
- Perform detailed code compliance safety inspections and provide required oversight of testing procedures for vertical transportation equipment.
- Witness required testing of various elevator safety components to ensure compliance with applicable safety codes and confirm that operation is in accordance with the test requirements.
- Conduct final acceptance inspections of new and modernized elevator systems for compliance with applicable codes.
- Provide detailed inspection reports reflecting the inspection/testing results, identifying code deficiencies and recommendations.
- Explain elevator safety code compliance deficiencies in order to resolve identified issues.
- Communicate effectively while working with facility staff and local industry contractors, leading the inspection and testing process to achieve uniform results.
- Demonstrate a solid understanding of applicable Code requirements and inform owners, operators, contractors and building department staff of observed violations. Remove unsafe conveyances from service when required.
- Provide training and demonstrate personal safety practices in the field.
- Investigate field incidents and provide concise, unbiased observations.
- Conduct routine code, product technology and safety training to ensure ongoing development of inspection personnel.
- Demonstrate solid decision‑making practices and guide inspection personnel for personal development.
- Strive to become an industry resource professional.
- Provide ongoing effort to increase client base.
- Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Detailed knowledge of commercial and residential building design and construction methods; building, fire, electrical, accessibility and conveyance Codes & regulations.
- Professional experience performing code compliance inspections of vertical transportation equipment and systems.
- Ability to read architectural, engineering and installation drawings, and a working knowledge of electrical, electronic and circuit construction principles.
- Must be certified as a Qualified Elevator Inspector (ASME QEI‑1) by an organization accredited by the American National Standards Institute.
- Demonstrate initiative and sound judgement.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to work independently.
- Demonstrate the ability to work through complex issues of code compliance and the methods for achieving results.
- Strong working knowledge of MS Office products (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.).
