Position: General Manager (Technical Construction/Installation Services)

Position: CEO– Technical Construction/Installation Services (Building Automation focus)

This is a Direct-Hire Position paying between $200,000-$250,000 per year + equity depending on the level of experience.

Role Overview:

We are seeking aCEO to lead the transformation and long-term scale of an existing $20M operating business into a national, standalone technical services company. The business is currently wholly owned and operating as a business unit within a parent organization and will be carved out into its own entity in the near future. The business focuses on commercial HVAC control systems installation.

This role owns full P&L responsibility and is accountable for building the organizational structure, systems, and leadership required to scale the business to $200M+ in revenue over a 7–10 year horizon, while maintaining a margin-first growth discipline.

The General Manager will work closely with the President (who retains strategic ownership) and will have full authority over execution, operations, hiring, and business setup, including oversight of the staged transition away from shared services (HR, finance, ERP, etc.).

This is an operator role, not a sales-led or investor-facing position.

Responsibilities:

Business Leadership & P&L Ownership

  • Own full P&L performance, including revenue growth, margin, cash flow, and cost discipline
  • Translate company strategy into executable operating plans
  • Establish annual budgets, hiring plans, and operating priorities with President oversight
  • Lead growth from $20M to $200M+ through:
  • Launching new geographic locations
  • Ensure growth remains operationally scalable and margin-accretive

Organizational Build-Out

  • Build and lead the full management organization beyond the existing Operations Director
  • Recruit, develop, and retain senior leadership team
  • Establish performance expectations, accountability structures, and leadership cadence
  • Address legacy talent gaps and replace underperforming leadership as needed

Operations & Execution Oversight

  • Partner with an experienced Operations Director who currently manages:
  • ~100 craft employees
  • ~10 branch managers
  • Ensure operational consistency, quality, and execution across all locations
  • Maintain strong field-to-office alignment and execution discipline

Business Separation & Infrastructure

  • Lead the staged carve-out from parent company shared services
  • Prioritize and oversee the transition of:
  • HR
  • Finance / Accounting
  • ERP / systems
  • Insurance, Bonding, and risk functions
  • Determine which functions should be built internally vs. outsourced
  • Ensure business continuity throughout the transition

Governance & Stakeholder Management

  • Report directly to the President with a dotted line to the Board
  • Provide clear operational, financial, and growth reporting
  • Operate with autonomy on tactics while aligning to executive strategy

Requirements:

  • Proven experience scaling a multi-location operating business
  • Prior full P&L ownership in a $20M–$100M+ organization
  • Demonstrated success building leadership teams and operating structure
  • Strong operational leadership background
  • Experience expanding into new geographies or managing multi-site operations
  • Ability to lead through organizational change and business transformation

Note:

Direct building automation, BAS, or construction domain experience is not required.

Preferred Qualifications (Nice-to-Have):

  • Experience growing a business from regional to national scale
  • Background in installation-heavy or labor-driven service businesses
  • Prior involvement in business unit carve-outs or shared services transitions
  • Strong financial acumen with hands-on budget ownership

Success Metrics (First 12–18 Months):

  • Leadership team fully built and stabilized
  • Full separation from parent services
  • 1–3 new cities launched or firmly in execution planning
  • Operational cadence, reporting, and accountability systems in place
  • Measurable progress toward scalable growth without margin erosion

Team & Reporting Context

  • Reports directly to the President
  • One direct report at start (Operations Director), with responsibility to build the full org
  • Branch Managers report through Operations Director
  • Dotted-line accountability to the Board

Location & Working Model

  • Denver-based strongly preferred
  • On-site leadership expected
  • Low travel; not a road-warrior role

Relocation is not preferred; local candidates prioritized
