The Director of Group Sales is primarily responsible for overseeing and managing area sales for the Denver/Colorado Market. This includes leading and driving top-line revenue strategy for group and volume transient segments. The role requires staying ahead of market trends, monitoring market share movements, and conducting ongoing competitive hotel analysis while directing the sales teams to meet or exceed budgeted revenues.
The position also involves developing and implementing a marketing communications plan to achieve the desired hotel positioning and managing the sales and marketing budget that supports revenue attainment.
- Lead and drive top-line revenue for group and volume transient segments for the primary hotel, with oversight of sales leaders at other area hotels.
- Assess and react to market trends, market share, and the competitive hotel environment.
- Develop and implement a marketing communications plan to achieve the desired hotel positioning; manage the sales and marketing budget to support initiatives.
- Act as the hotel’s voice of the customer and communicate key issues at all levels of the organization.
- Read/interpret Smith Travel Research data, P&L, sales mix, forecasting, group pace/position, and various hotel reports.
- Understand and communicate market trends, demand generators, supply/demand, and economic factors affecting performance.
- Conduct competitive set reviews, SWOT analyses and monitor new supply.
- Develop plans to penetrate primary GEO markets and manage key accounts (existing and target).
- Design effective sales deployment schemes and market assignments; develop sales goals to achieve budget and market-share targets.
- Manage group pace measurements and sales production goals; oversee sales activity and travel schedules.
- Lead owner relations, communications and expectations for the primary hotel and other area hotels as assigned.
- Lead a team of Senior Sales Managers for the designated area.
- At least 5 years of experience as a DOSM/sales leader, with prior hotel sales experience.
- Area/Regional sales oversight of multi-hotel operations preferred.
- Experience dealing with ownership groups and asset management.
- Proficient in sales automation (e.g., DELPHI, STS) and PMS systems.
- Experience collaborating with revenue management and operations teams.
- Strong knowledge of market segments and channel distribution; ability to develop strategic plans for each.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills; strong interpersonal skills and ability to work in a team.
- Ability to direct, lead, train, motivate and develop a direct sales team and foster a cooperative and competitive team environment.
- Proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Ability to multitask and prioritize departmental functions to meet deadlines.
