The Building Engineer at NWC is responsible for day‑to‑day operation, maintenance, and repair of building systems and infrastructure across the campus. Responsibilities include HVAC, plumbing, mechanical systems, and general facility maintenance. The role requires a proactive, hands‑on approach to ensure efficient operation while maintaining safety, cleanliness, and compliance with all regulations. WhatYou Will Do
- Assist with energy‑management efforts, monitoring and controlling HVAC and mechanical usage to improve sustainability and reduce operational costs.
- Operate, monitor, maintain, inspect, and repair all HVAC, plumbing, and mechanical systems to ensure optimal functionality and energy efficiency.
- Inspect the building and surrounding grounds regularly to identify safety hazards, cleanliness issues, or maintenance needs, and ensure compliance with safety protocols and building codes.
- Create and maintain job‑hazard analyses, SOPs, and other documentation needed for the safety and success of the Facilities Team.
- Use the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) to manage work orders, schedule preventive maintenance tasks, track inventory, and maintain accurate records. Respond promptly and professionally to work orders and requests, collaborating with internal teams and external contractors.
- Perform work indoors and outdoors in various weather conditions; occasional after‑hours or on‑call availability may be required. Lifting, climbing, and use of ladders, lifts, or scaffolding will be necessary to access equipment.

- High School Diploma or GED preferred; associate degree or technical certification in Building Systems, Facilities Management, or a related field preferred.
- 1–2 years of industry experience in operations and/or events.
- 2–4 years of experience in a facility‑engineer position.
- Experience with computer‑based operating and energy‑management systems.
- Valid universal CFC license.
- Valid Refrigeration or Boiler Operator license.
- Forklift and Scissor‑lift certification, or willingness to obtain within the first 60 days.
- Current licensing and registration must be maintained.
- Knowledge of national and local building codes and safety regulations.
- Familiarity with HVAC, plumbing, and mechanical systems.
- Proficiency using CMMS software for work‑order, maintenance, and inventory management.
- Ability to operate hand, power, and other maintenance tools safely.
- Strong troubleshooting skills with quick and efficient resolution of building‑system issues.
- Ability to read and use testing equipment (multimeters, pressure/temperature gauges, airflow meters, leak detectors, etc.).
- Competent computer skills to support required engineering programs.
- Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a dynamic environment.
- Physical ability to lift, carry, and move equipment; work at heights and in confined spaces may be required.
- Experience working in a large multi‑building campus environment, preferably public or commercial.
