New employees will be paid biweekly, with 26 pay periods a year.

About the Unit

The Tolling Maintenance Technician (Technician IV) works in the Colorado High Performance Transportation Enterprise (HPTE), a government-owned business overseen by a separate Board of Directors.

HPTE, now doing business as the Colorado Transportation Investment Office (CTIO), operates Express Lanes across the state, managing 176 lane miles of active lanes, with additional miles under construction and development.

About the Position

The Tolling Maintenance Technician assists the Tolling Maintenance Supervisor with oversight of toll road maintenance, repairs, escalations, and reporting. The role collaborates with vendors responsible for maintaining equipment and devices on the Express Lanes network, including C470, C70, I‑25 segments and I‑70 Mountain Express Lanes.

Maintenance of Tolled Express Lanes
  • Assist the Tolling Maintenance Supervisor with oversight of toll road maintenance, repairs, escalations, and reports, working primarily with vendors responsible for equipment and devices.
  • Monitor ETC rite

    OSS™ and Tolling Access Portal (TAP) systems for damaged roadside equipment or devices.
  • Perform day‑to‑day monitoring and accompany contractors to investigate equipment damage, determine required repairs, and ensure timely completion according to specs and SOPs.
  • Ensure contractors perform maintenance within prescribed time frames outlined in the contract.
  • Coordinate vendor installation of new equipment and oversee installation to ensure compliance with specs.
  • Work with CDOT Maintenance and/or vendors to facilitate road closures when necessary for installations.
  • Coordinate emergency repair contracts and ensure completion.
  • Ensure accurate documentation of issues by contractors.
  • Monitor the maintenance ticketing process and provide guidance to ensure tickets are updated and closed promptly.
  • Coordinate with IT & Network Services during fiber or network outages; work with Roadway Technical Services on device outages; collaborate with Maintenance on damage caused by the public.
  • May provide training to address contractor knowledge gaps.
Inventory and Spare Parts Tracking
  • Perform physical inventory audits of spare parts.
  • Follow Return Material Authorization factory return programs.
  • Communicate regularly with vendors to manage parts inventory based on demand.
  • Track transponder inventory.
Reports and Planning
  • Generate reports showing overall maintenance performance.
  • Generate routine system reports to plan for device or equipment upgrades.
  • Capture trends and analyze equipment performance, toll point uptime, and SLA metrics.
  • Monitor contractor KPI’s and report trends to the Maintenance Supervisor.
System Testing and Coordination of Toll Project Activities
  • Document device or software failures to ensure punch list items are addressed before testing.
  • Test new toll rates and algorithms to match expected road conditions.
  • Document issues for corrective maintenance.
  • Attend Go‑Live meetings.
  • Provide input on contractor guidance documents related to best practices during testing.
Work Environment
  • Schedule:

    8‑5, Monday‑Friday.
