Position: Logistics Specialist: Spring Bike Tech – DU Outdoors

  • Bike Service (Basic Level):
    Perform minor tunes and fixes including bolt checks/safety inspections, brake and derailleur micro-adjustments, tubeless top-offs/plugging, flat fixes/tube swaps, and basic drivetrain clean & lube. Document any issues beyond scope and elevate to the Logistics Coordinator.
  • Student Workspace Support:
    Set up/tear down open workbenches; check tools in/out;maintaina safe, organized workspace; enforce shop rules, safety expectations, and waivers. Coach students through basic self-service tasks (not full 1:1 instruction unless scheduled).
  • Intake & Checkout:
    Complete service intake forms, ticket bikes, set reasonable ETAs, communicate status, and coordinate ready-for-pickup messaging.
  • Quality & Safety:
    Conduct final safety checks before release; follow shop SOPs, PPE expectations, and risk management practices; flag and elevate safety concerns or complex repairs.
  • Inventory & Facilities:
    Track consumables (tubes, sealant, cables/housing, small parts) and flag reorder needs.

    Keepbenches, stands, and floors clean andshop-ready.
  • Counter & Community Support:
    Assist with rentalcounteras needed (bikes, tents, stoves, etc.) and answercommon questionsabout commuting, local routes/trails, and DU Outdoors programs.
  • Records & Reporting:
    Log services, parts used, and labor time in the shop tracking sheet; note incidents/near-misses.
  • Team Operations:
    Coordinate with the Logistics Coordinator on shift coverage, parts/consumablesneeds, and special events/clinics/pop-ups.

Required Qualifications

  • Comfort using basic bike shop tools (work stand,allen/torxwrenches, cable cutters, chain tool, pump).
  • Availability during peak shop hours (Thu–Sun, typically 3–7 pm).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior bike shop, campus shop, or similar service experience.
  • Experience with flats, brake/shift micro-adjustments, and basic safety checks.
  • Tubeless knowledge (top-off/plugging), chain sizing/replacement, bar-tape wraps.
  • CPR/First Aid (current or willing to obtain promptly).
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft 365 (Outlook/Teams/Excel for tickets & inventory).
  • Shop setting + student community workspace
  • Customer-facing environment with shared tools and open benches

Physical Activities

  • Able to lift/carry 50 lbs.
  • Stand for extended periods
  • Repetitive hand/tool use; occasional kneeling/bending

Tools & Systems

  • Standard bike shop hand tools (work stand, torque/hex/torxtools, pumps, patch/tube tools, chain tools, basic cleaning/lube supplies).
  • Basic shop logs, tickets, and inventory via Microsoft Suite (Excel/Teams/Outlook); scheduling/ops via shared calendars/Wrike; training provided.
