Job SummaryAssist the Deputy Solicitor General for Federal Initiatives as litigation counsel in key federal matters. Shape the state’s legal strategy, defend state programs, funding streams, and the rule of law, and collaborate with agency counsel and multi‑state partners.
Key Responsibilities- Provide counsel on federal executive orders, agency actions, and legislation affecting Colorado government and residents.
- Develop and execute litigation strategy for federal cases and trials, including trial moots and after‑action reviews.
- Prepare pleadings, motions, briefs, and discovery; appear in court and in coalition meetings.
- Lead or support the preparation of comment letters, amicus briefs, and multi‑state brief submissions.
- Collaborate with other state Attorney General staff on multistate matters and strategic advocacy.
- At least 4 years of legal experience, including significant federal civil or administrative litigation.
- Experience with administrative and regulatory law.
- Prior experience representing or advising public‑sector clients or government agencies.
- Experience litigating for or against the federal government or federal agencies.
- Background in investigations, federal grants, or civil rights matters.
- Experience leading complex multi‑party litigation or working in multi‑state coalitions.
- Applicants must pass a thorough background investigation prior to appointment.
- Candidates eligible to waive into the Colorado Bar must submit proof of completed application before the first day of employment.
Assistant Attorney General I: $85,795 – $95,437 annually. Assistant Attorney General II: $99,318 – $132,901 annually. Salary is paid biweekly and will be set commensurate with qualifications and compliance with the Equal Pay for Equal Work Act.
