Assistant Attorney General – Professional Boards and Programs Unit
The Revenue & Regulatory Law (R&R) section of the Colorado Department of Law is seeking a dynamic and committed Assistant Attorney General to join the Professional Boards and Programs (PBP) Unit. In this role, you will help protect Coloradans through the state’s regulation of licensed professions, engaging in diverse licensing litigation work and providing general counsel to clients represented by the unit.

WHATYOU WILL DO
The PBP Unit is the largest of the 10 units within the R&R section, representing state regulatory agencies such as the Department of Regulatory Agencies (DORA), the Department of Revenue, the Department of Agriculture, and the Department of Local Affairs. With approximately 125 team members tackling a wide array of legal challenges for nearly 100 state agencies, boards, commissions, and divisions, the unit helps protect public health and safety by overseeing industries and professions to ensure licensees provide competent and safe services to Coloradans.
RESPONSIBILITIES- Independently handle litigation, negotiation/mediation, hearings, and appeals of cases on behalf of clients represented by the Unit.
- Litigate matters requiring immediate action, including prosecuting license suspensions and opposing actions to seal criminal records.
- Enforce clients’ practice acts against unlicensed persons through injunctive relief in Colorado District Courts.
- Attend board meetings as general counsel.
- Advise client boards and program directors on litigation and general legal issues.
- Provide training to DOL attorneys and/or client representatives and staff.
- Assist other attorneys in client counseling and litigating cases on behalf of other clients represented by the Unit and the R&R section.
- Admitted to the Colorado Bar or eligible to waive into the Colorado Bar and in good standing at the time of application.
- Litigation background with the ability to handle negotiations, litigation, and trials independently and effectively.
- Proficient client communication skills and excellent written communication skills.
- Ability to manage a significant caseload, often working closely with unit paralegals.
- Comfort with and enjoyment of litigating cases and advising clients in a general counsel role.
- Strong research, writing, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to provide concise advice on complex matters.

Assistant Attorney General I (AAG I) salary range: $88,197 – $96,554 annually.
Assistant Attorney General II (AAG II) salary range: $102,099 – $136,558 annually.
Salary will be paid on a biweekly basis. The Department of Law uses a wage‑progression compensation model; salary will be set in accordance with qualifications and the Equal Pay for Equal Work Act.
