The Systems Manager reports to the Technical Operations Director and is responsible for the day-to-day management and strategic oversight of all IT infrastructure operations—including networks, servers, storage, virtualization, cloud platforms, data centers, and end‑user computing environments—across all firm locations. This role ensures the stability, security, and scalability of Holland & Hart’s technology infrastructure while leading a team of systems engineers and administrators and driving automation initiatives to improve operational efficiency.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities- Lead a team of systems engineers responsible for network, server, storage, virtualization, cloud, and end‑user computing infrastructure across 13 regional offices and firm data centers.
- Develop and implement tactical infrastructure plans that align with the firm’s strategic technology roadmap and ensure high availability of all systems.
- Oversee the engineering, implementation, and maintenance of on‑premise and cloud infrastructure—including network, storage, compute, IaaS, and PaaS.
- Manage vendor relationships and service contracts for infrastructure hardware and software.
- Lead infrastructure automation, Dev Ops practices, and infrastructure‑as‑code methodologies to reduce manual processes, improve deployment consistency, and enable rapid scaling.
- Provide management oversight and resource allocation for end‑user computing operations to strategically align with the overall infrastructure roadmap.
- Coordinate with the Technical Support team to ensure seamless resolution of infrastructure‑related incidents and proper escalation procedures.
- Maintain comprehensive metrics on infrastructure performance—including uptime, capacity utilization, incident response times, and asset management.
- Develop and maintain automated procedures and infrastructure‑as‑code templates governing the operation and maintenance of network systems, including hardware, backup, disaster recovery, wireless, and BYOD policies.
- Work closely with the Security Manager to ensure timely application of security patches and that all infrastructure implementations follow security best practices.
- Participate in budget development for infrastructure hardware, software, and services, managing expenses within approved allocations.
- Provide technical expertise and guidance to the Technical Operations Director on infrastructure strategy, capacity planning, and technology roadmaps.
- Ensure compliance with all IT policies, procedures, standards, and guidelines across the infrastructure team.
- Travel to other offices as required for infrastructure projects and onsite support.
- Perform additional duties and tasks assigned, demonstrating flexibility and commitment to the firm’s overall objectives.
- Develop and nurture an inclusive, client‑centric work environment; recognize and reward strong performance, teamwork, professionalism, and responsiveness.
- Organize and oversee team scheduling, workload distribution, and productivity to ensure efficient operations.
- Make informed hiring and selection decisions in collaboration with the department head and HR.
- Deliver timely and constructive performance feedback and conduct evaluations to help team members grow.
- Coach, develop, and train team members to meet and exceed departmental expectations.
- Review and approve timecards and vacation requests, ensuring compliance with policies.
- Manage daily responsibilities in alignment with departmental goals and objectives.
- Assist with employee discipline and, when necessary, termination in accordance with policy and legal guidelines.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related technology field (or equivalent experience).
- 8+ years of IT infrastructure experience, including networking, server administration, storage, and cloud technologies.
- 3+ years of technical leadership experience managing people.
- Experience managing infrastructure in a professional services or legal environment preferred.
- Strong expertise in Cisco, VMware, Microsoft Azure, AWS, Terraform, Ansible, or other infrastructure automation technologies.
