About Fort Logan: The Colorado Mental Health Hospital in Fort Logan (CMHHIFL) is one of two state psychiatric hospitals serving Colorado residents with acute mental illnesses and/or court-ordered inpatient restoration treatment. CMHHIFL provides inpatient care to adult patients typically between ages 18-59, with 94 civil adult inpatient beds and 44 forensic beds. Medical, rehabilitation services (physical, occupational, and speech therapy) and clinical programming are available based on treatment needs.

About this Work Unit: This position works in the 24-hour state psychiatric hospital with individuals voluntarily and involuntarily committed to treatment. Patients have severe and persistent mental illness and may have traumatic brain injury and other complex dynamics. Each treatment team is multidisciplinary, including psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, addiction specialists, occupational therapists, recreation therapists, creative arts therapists, nurses, physicians, and other mental health clinicians.
The hospital also offers dietary, peer, and chaplain services.
- Deliver medications to treatment teams; pick up medications to be returned to the pharmacy. Deliveries to treatment units occur across multiple buildings and may require going outside.
- Fill prescriptions accurately, including floor stock items, controlled substances, discharge medications, and inpatient unit dose cassettes. Process credits back to clients and complete associated paperwork and computer data entry. Process Medicare Part D claims.
- Process controlled drug requisitions (packaging, filling, and delivering to units). Use pharmacy logs and nursing control substance sign-out logs to account for medications; assign lot numbers to each controlled drug dispensed as floor stock. Obtain signatures from nurses for floor stocks and from the pharmacist for pharmacy.
- Pre-package and label medications for unit-dose dispensing. Return medication to pharmacy inventory and credit back to patients. Complete associated paperwork and computer data entry.
- Orders pharmaceuticals and supplies for day-to-day operations; receive items and store them. Complete associated paperwork and computer data entry.
- On-site schedule:
Monday – Friday, 7:30 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. Closed on holidays.
Note:
Working arrangements are subject to change.
- Current, valid certification or provisional certification as a Pharmacy Technician from the Colorado State Board of Pharmacy.
- Two (2) years of experience in an occupational field related to the work assigned to the position.
- No Substitutions
- Two (2) years of recent experience filling, labeling, and storing drugs in a pharmacy setting.
- Strong interpersonal skills for collaboration with pharmacy and healthcare professionals.
- Exceptional organizational and multi-tasking skills.
- Ability to maintain adequate inventory/supplies; basic computer literacy and mathematical computation skills.
- Customer service and problem solving; ability to work as a team member; ability to meet work schedules.
- Previous State employee
- Full background check.
- Annual influenza and other vaccinations as required by the State of Colorado.
- Pre-employment tests may include a drug screen and a Tuberculosis (TB) test.
- This position may require shift work and is eligible for shift differential.
- Some pharmaceuticals require special handling and disposal per EPA regulations.
- Due to the juvenile population served at the MHI facilities, incumbents must be at least 21 years of age.
