Description Of Job

WORK UNIT: The Health Facilities and Emergency Medical Services Division (HFEMSD) oversees and enforces a broad range of federal and state statutes and regulations applicable to healthcare facilities and services in Colorado, including hospitals, clinics, ambulatory surgical facilities, dialysis centers, EMS providers, trauma centers, long-term care facilities, and more. The division licenses, certifies and surveys facilities and services; provides patient safety and healthcare quality programs;

recognizes EMS education programs; certifies EMS providers and licenses air ambulance services.

This unit protects health, safety, and welfare by evaluating compliance, and provides public information on health care facilities.

Summary Of Position

Professionals in this role work independently or as part of an interdisciplinary team to assess the care, treatment, and quality of life at various health facilities through observations, interviews, and record review. They apply statutes, regulations, guidelines, policies, and procedures on a case-by-case basis to determine facility compliance/violation. They review self-reported occurrences and incidents of deficiencies and determine whether facilities intervened appropriately.

They write statements of deficiencies and act as a resource, educator, and interpreter of regulations for providers and consumers.

Minimum Qualifications , Substitutions, Conditions Of Employment & Appeal Rights

Minimum Qualifications / must meet one of the following options:

  • Experience Only
    Six (6) years of relevant experience in an occupation related to the work assigned to this position.
  • Current, valid licensure as a Registered Nurse from the Colorado Board of Nursing or any state in the Enhanced Nurse Licensure Compact (eNLC)

OR

  • Education And Experience

A combination of related education and/or relevant experience equal to six (6) years. Examples include:

  • Bachelor’s degree in public health, health administration, nursing, psychology, or related field
  • Two (2) additional years of related experience
  • Current, valid RN licensure (Colorado or eNLC)
