Overview

If you are a current HFEMS Health Compliance Inspector (Health Professional III); you will maintain your current salary if hired into this role. If any step pay increases are available, your HRBP will work with you to audit your step pay/time-in-series upon an offer.

If you are not a current State of Colorado employee, the starting pay for this position is $66,024/annually.

Work Unit: The Health Facilities and Emergency Medical Services Division (HFEMSD) oversees healthcare facilities and services in Colorado, including licensing, surveys, and quality programs, and regulates EMS providers and related services.

This unit protects the health, safety, and welfare of patients/residents by evaluating compliance with federal and state laws and professional standards.

Duties of Position
  • On an unannounced basis, survey Nursing Facilities to determine compliance with statutes/regulations.
  • Assess quality of care, services, and treatment through observations, records, and interviews with residents, families, staff, and outside professionals.
  • Collect and document evidence and survey results; analyze to determine noncompliance.
  • Write clear, concise, legally defensible deficiency statements and cite applicable regulations.
  • Advise facility providers, consumers, and agencies on regulatory requirements.
  • Decide which noncompliant areas to cite and which specific regulations apply.
  • Investigate complex complaints and determine substantiation and appropriate citations.
  • Work independently or as part of an interdisciplinary team to assess care and quality of life in facilities.
  • Provide guidance and interpretation of regulations to providers and consumers.

Minimum Qualifications

Experience Only: Six (6) years of relevant experience in an occupation related to nursing facility care or regulatory oversight.

OR

Education and Experience: Two (2) years of related experience and a Bachelor’s degree in nursing, social work, public health, health administration, or related field. Must be substantiated in the Work Experience & Education section of the application.
