The Division of Aging and Adult Protective Services (AAPS) is one of three divisions within the Office of Children, Aging, and Community Services, providing state leadership and supervision for services to older adults and at-risk adults across Colorado.
Job OverviewThe selected candidate will serve as a Social Services Specialist for the APS program in a hybrid position, working in the office two days a week.
Key Responsibilities- Coordinate, develop, and provide training and written instructions to county APS staff, other professional agencies, and community groups.
- Provide technical assistance and consultation to county staff and respond to complex questions related to adult protection.
- Monitor program requirement compliance and conduct onsite or offsite program assessments and evaluations.
- Recommend and draft legislative, regulatory, or policy changes and analyze their impact.
- Participate on external task forces, committees, and work groups to develop inter‑program protocols and promote public awareness.
- Manage a portfolio of counties and develop tailored technical assistance strategies for each assigned county.
- Conduct training needs analysis, develop and deliver curriculum in multiple modalities (classroom, webinar, computer‑based, etc.), and evaluate training effectiveness.
- Assist with coordination of contracts with training sites and selection of training speakers.
- Prepare written reports and deliver verbal presentations to professional groups and stakeholders.
- At least two years of experience working with at-risk adults as a case manager, APS caseworker, or closely related position.
- At least two years of experience working with a complex data system.
- Six (6) years of relevant experience in a related occupation.
- OR a combination of related education and/or relevant experience equal to six (6) years.
- Experience in the Colorado APS program, other Adult Protective Services Programs, or similar government‑regulated work.
- Experience in curriculum development and delivery using multiple training modalities.
- Proficiency with technology such as Google Workspace, Microsoft Office tools, Zoom, Salesforce, or other electronic case management systems.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent time management skills and attention to detail.
- Experience interpreting regulations, statutes, and policies.
- Excellent customer service and stakeholder engagement skills.
- All CDHS employees (non‑direct contact) must complete background checks including CBI name check, ICON Colorado court database, Medicare fraud database, reference checks, professional license verification, and drug screening.
- The position requires State of Colorado residency at the time of application and residency within the state throughout employment.
- Ability to travel in and out of state.
Former State employees who were disciplinarily terminated or resigned in lieu of termination must disclose this information on the application, explain why it should not disqualify them, and provide their employee number. Failure to provide this information will disqualify the applicant from future State employment with CDHS.
