Description Of Job The Work UnitThe Environmental Agriculture Program is under the direction of the Deputy Division Director and is responsible for assuring compliance with state and federal air quality and water quality requirements for animal feeding operations. These duties are accomplished through compliance assurance, compliance assistance, regulatory interpretation, complaint response, permit and plan reviews, permit issuance, review of nutrient management plans and implementation, and other field‑generated information specific to animal feeding operations.
The Ag Program determines the appropriate response, including requests for information, meeting with stakeholders, conducting field investigations, developing enforcement cases or establishing corrective action deadlines and requirements. The unit is also responsible for drafting new regulations, guidance documents, and policies related to animal feeding operations.
This position is an environmental protection specialist within the Environmental Agriculture Program. The responsibilities include reviewing documents submitted by the regulated community to determine completeness and compliance with applicable regulations and policies; conducting regulatory inspections, preparing inspection reports, and making enforcement recommendations; using federal and state databases to record compliance statistics and information about regulated businesses; and providing compliance assistance, guidance, and training to the regulated community.
