The Executive Director is responsible for leading and overseeing the day‑to‑day operations of the Colorado District Attorneys’ Council (CDAC) in accordance with the strategic direction set by the Board of Directors and in furtherance of the mission and priorities of CDAC. Each category listed carries equal importance.
General Management- Manage and supervise all functions of CDAC.
- Hire, manage, and lead a focused and motivated team of attorneys, IT staff, and support staff in furtherance of the mission and objectives of CDAC.
- Prepare and manage CDAC budgets, including overseeing financial accounts, sources of revenue, and ensuring fiscal responsibility.
- Advise, support, and respond to the needs of elected District Attorneys on the CDAC Board and their respective offices.
- Apply for and administer grants and other funding from outside sources such as the federal government, state government, private foundations, and any other available sources.
- Serve, support, and respond to the direction of the CDAC Governing Board and report relevant progress, challenges, and accomplishments of CDAC and its staff to the Board.
- Promote, foster, and encourage the development of professional prosecutors within the State of Colorado.
- Direct the collection, maintenance, and dissemination of information concerning recent court decisions, changes in statutory law, and other assistance to prosecutors.
- Lead the planning and execution of all CDAC conferences and attorney training in coordination with CDAC attorneys and staff.
- Provide oversight for grant‑funded attorneys who manage the CDAC Ending Violence Against Women (EVAW), Traffic Safety Resource Prosecutor (TSRP), and Colorado Auto Theft Prevention Authority (CATPA) programs.
- Oversee the annual legislative update materials and trainings and other training publications and webinars.
- Ensure that CDAC provides legal research and assistance to prosecutors 24/7, including assistance on motions and legal research, and support to be deputized as a special deputy district attorney when needed.
- Supervise and collaborate with all training attorneys within CDAC.
- Serve as the primary liaison to the Colorado General Assembly, Governor’s Office, Attorney General’s Office, Colorado’s congressional delegation, and other elected officials on all legislative and policy matters of interest to the CDAC Board and prosecutors in the state.
- In close collaboration with the CDAC Board, direct CDAC’s legislative policy strategy during the Colorado Legislature’s session and throughout the year.
- Coordinate and lead CDAC’s legislative policy and lobbying team, representing CDAC and the CDAC Board at the Colorado General Assembly on legislative policy priorities and positions.
- Oversee the annual CDAC Legislative Committee and legislation priority selection process in collaboration with CDAC attorneys and staff.
- Engage as a primary point of contact with CDAC’s contract lobbyists, legislators, and other elected officials as needed.
- Participate in or appoint others to various committees and stakeholder groups related to CDAC’s legislative interests as necessary.
- Draft, edit, and provide testimony on legislation as necessary.
- Advise and report to the CDAC Board on developments and strategies during the legislative session and throughout the year.
- Summarize and present relevant bills and ballot measures of interest for official CDAC positions to the Governing Board at monthly meetings.
- Work closely with the CDAC Board, the CDAC Executive Board, and the CDAC Board President on all legislative matters.
- Supervise the operation and management of the IT section (ACTION, CDAC website, eDiscovery, and other related projects) in collaboration with CDAC’s Chief Information Officer (CIO).
- Coordinate with CIO on budgetary issues related to the IT section of CDAC and for annual budget requests to the state judicial department.
