Position Overview of Assistant Controller:

The Assistant Controller will play a key leadership role within the Accounting and Finance team, supporting financial reporting, compliance, project analysis, and team oversight. This is a hands-on role requiring both technical expertise and leadership capability.

Key Responsibilities of Assistant Controller:

  • Maintain and enhance documented accounting policies and procedures
  • Prepare and issue timely, accurate financial reporting in accordance with US GAAP and IFRS
  • Review and analyze job cost reporting and project profitability
  • Assist in the preparation of annual budgets and financial forecasts
  • Develop financial analysis tools to evaluate company initiatives and special projects
  • Support annual financial audits, including preparation of audit work papers
  • Assist with quarterly MD&A reporting
  • Reconcile intercompany transactions across multiple currencies
  • Research tax treaties and manage foreign tax withholding
  • Review bi-weekly payroll and partner with HR to resolve payroll tax matters
  • Participate in 401(k) planning committee
  • Support ISO certification initiatives

Leadership & Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Manage day-to-day activities of the Accounting/Finance team
  • Lead hiring, training, performance management, and staff development
  • Ensure compliance with company policies and applicable laws

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required
  • Master’s degree preferred
  • CPA preferred
  • 10+ years of progressively responsible accounting/finance leadership experience
  • Consulting firm experience within Mining and Hydropower industries preferred
  • Strong analytical, reasoning, and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Advanced Excel skills required
  • ERP system management experience preferred
  • Experience with Vantagepoint and Intranet APIs a plus
  • Self-motivated and able to operate independently

Compensation

In accordance with Colorado state law, the annual compensation range for this role is $120,000 – $155,000, depending on experience, education, and skill level.
