Financial Manager, CFO
Capstone Development Partners, LLC is seeking a Controller to support its growing real estate development and management platform. This is a hands‑on leadership role, distinct from a large, corporate Controller position, designed for an accounting professional who thrives in lean environments, owns complex workflows, and partners closely with leadership and multiple teams.
This role is being created to add immediate capacity to the accounting and finance function and to support a thoughtful transition of responsibilities over time. This role will focus heavily on budgeting, cash flow, treasury management, and project‑level reporting, particularly across development and construction activities.
The Controller will work closely with the Chief Financial Officer, Senior Vice President, Accounting & Risk Management, Senior Accountant, development and construction teams, and external partners. The position will play a critical role in supporting upcoming organizational changes, including the planned integration of Capstone Management Partners (CMP) into CDP.
Key Responsibilities Corporate Budgeting & Financial Management- Oversee and lead the creation of the annual corporate budget.
- Partner with the CFO, SVP of Accounting and division leaders to review financial performance and trends.
- Support reporting needs in coordination with external stakeholders.
- Manage treasury operations, including oversight of corporate and project bank accounts.
- Review corporate disbursements, approve wires and ACH transactions, ensuring accuracy and appropriateness.
- Work closely with CFO to maintain and manage banking relationships, lines of credit, and liquidity planning.
- Take ownership and lead the accounting efforts of projects in pre‑development and construction phases.
- Manage monthly construction draws, assist with budgets‑to‑actuals (BTAs), and oversee project‑specific lines of credit.
- Collaborate closely with development and construction teams, including both internal and external members.
- Support CMP‑related projects across pre‑development, construction, and operating assets, as needed.
- Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, scalability, and accuracy across financial and operational processes.
- Lead or support system and process enhancements, including:
- Research and assist in implementation of an automated travel and expenses reimbursement system.
- Evaluation of treasury management platforms.
- Assist with accounting setup, integration, and expanded responsibilities as CMP is brought in‑house.
- Embrace and operate in accordance with CDP Core Principles & Vision.
- Work effectively with leadership and team members located in multiple offices.
- Serve as a collaborative, communicative team member across internal teams and with third‑party partners and stakeholders.
- Uphold and advance CD’s culture, values, and mission.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- 6–10+ years of progressive experience in accounting and finance, preferably within real estate development, construction, and property management.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP, multi‑entity accounting, and real estate accounting principles.
- Demonstrated experience with corporate and project‑level cash flow management and treasury operations.
- Advanced Excel skills, including the ability to work with datasets, complex formulas, and scenario‑based ("if/then") analysis.
- Proven ability to operate as a self‑starter in a lean, fast‑paced environment.
- Highly detailed and organized, with a sense of urgency and ownership.
- Excellent analytical and problem solving skills.
- Advanced written and verbal communication skills, including comfort interacting with external partners.
- CPA license.
- Combination of public and private accounting experience.
- Hands‑on experience with real estate development and construction accounting, draws and a familiarity with project financing.
- Strong technology aptitude; experience with Quick Books strongly preferred, and familiarity with Entrada is a plus, especially within property management applications.
- Proficiency in Artificial Intelligence tools.
- Track record of implementing system or process improvements.
- Ability to work for prolonged periods at a desk using a computer.
- Occasional travel to the Birmingham, AL office may be required.
