The Colorado Division of Banking (DOB) protects the public interest and preserves public trust in the Colorado banking industry by regulating the business of state-chartered commercial banks and trust companies, state-licensed money transmitters, and by enforcing the Public Deposit Protection Act.
This work unit oversees all commercial banks and trust companies safety and soundness, commercial bank trust department examinations, and information technology (IT) examinations of financial institutions regulated by the Division of Banking. It manages and supervises financial credit examiners in performance of safety and soundness examinations and oversees the regulatory compliance of commercial banks, trust companies, trust departments and IT.

The Examiner-in-Charge is responsible for regulating and reporting on the safety and soundness of banks by planning, organizing, and managing assigned examination personnel. The Examiner-in-Charge supervises the preparation of each examination report, ensures thorough and complete examinations, and places full responsibility for these activities on the assigned person. The Examiner independently evaluates the adequacy, effectiveness, and efficiency of the systems within a financial entity and the quality of ongoing operations, providing reasonable assurance that bank assets are safeguarded and that errors or violations are corrected promptly to safeguard the public interest.
DutiesInclude, But Are Not Limited To
- Provide interpretation of rules and regulations to examiners and institution management during the examination.
- Contribute to the development of subordinate staff by ensuring trainees receive assignments to further their professional development.
- Review analytical reports (Bloomberg, rating services) to determine if the instrument’s credit quality has deteriorated and requires classification.
- Analyze operation practices and determine if safety and soundness concerns exist.
- Communicate examination findings with bank management and/or the board of directors.
- Perform off-site monitoring on a caseload of commercial banks each quarter, and complete written reports to highlight both positive and negative ratios and trends, as well as background developments that result in any major concerns and conclusions regarding the overall financial condition of the bank.

Experience
- Eight (8) years of full-time professional work experience with a state or federal financial institution regulatory agency.
- Associate’s Degree and
Experience:
Graduation from an accredited college or university with an associate’s degree in accounting, business, economics, finance, mathematics, statistics, or a related field; AND Six (6) years of full-time professional work experience with a state or federal financial institution regulatory agency. - Bachelor’s Degree and
