Temporary Events Captain – Spring 2026
Denver Zoo Conservation Alliance (DZCA) is committed to integrity, safety, and inclusion. As a Temporary Events Captain, you will help create unforgettable moments for guests during seasonal events such as Wild Fall, Zoo Lights, Glowing Wild, and Summer Activations.
This is a 15‑week, full‑time assignment (up to 40 hours per week) covering Fall Activations. The position is budgeted through mid‑May 2026.
Key Responsibilities- Assist with set‑up and tear‑down of event décor and assets.
- Coordinate with contractors, vendors, and internal staff for live performances and production logistics.
- Support day‑of event operations, ensuring seamless setup, execution, and strike.
- Deliver exceptional guest experiences at evening and weekend events.
- Collaborate with Guest Operations Managers, Coordinators, and Leads on production schedules and logistics.
- Maintain detailed procedures, timelines, and calendars for event planning and delivery.
- Assist with purchasing processes, asset tracking, and management.
- Build and maintain relationships with external contractors to coordinate installation and strike schedules.
- Partner with Guest Experience teams to optimize event layouts and traffic flow.
- Provide responsive guest support using available DZCA resources.
- Communicate clearly and professionally via radio, phone, and email.
- Uphold DZCA Occupational Health and Sustainability Policies.
- Support general operations and daily activities as directed by the Guest Operations Manager.
- Develop knowledge of the zoo campus and animal collection to engage guests.
- Demonstrate best practices in collaboration and guest service.
- Act as a steward of DZCA resources.
- Safeguard confidential information.
- High school diploma or equivalent (or completion in progress).
- At least one year of experience in event logistics or entertainment management, preferably in a nonprofit or high‑volume venue.
- Familiarity with event production, scheduling, logistics, vendor coordination, and on‑site execution.
- Excellent guest service skills in a high‑traffic public setting.
- Strong communication and public‑speaking abilities across email, phone, and radio.
- Sound safety‑conscious decision‑making in fast‑paced environments.
- Basic audio‑visual equipment troubleshooting.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and familiarity with purchasing and asset tracking systems.
- Highly organized, detail‑oriented, capable of managing multiple priorities.
- Adaptable team player who remains calm under pressure.
- Minimum 21 years of age, valid driver’s license, and a clean driving record.
- Background check and pre‑employment drug/alcohol screen required.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to walk (80 acres) and stand up to 8 hours daily in outdoor conditions.
- Flexible schedule including weekdays, weekends, evenings, and holidays.
- On‑campus work location.
$19.30–$23.88 per hour.
