At Blue Origin, we envision millions of people living and working in space for the benefit of Earth. We’re working to develop reusable, safe, and low-cost space vehicles and systems within a culture of safety, collaboration, and inclusion. Join our team of problem solvers as we add new chapters to the history of spaceflight! This role supports the development and operations of New Glenn, a single-configuration, heavy-lift orbital launch vehicle capable of routinely carrying people and payloads to low-Earth orbit, geostationary transfer orbit, cislunar, and beyond.
Its first stage is fully reusable, and the vehicle was designed from the beginning to be human-capable.
As a Manager of New Glenn Payload Accommodations (GS2PA) fairing and fixed adapter upgrades and studies, you will report to the Sr. Manager of New Glenn GS2PA and directly support program execution. This is the largest and most capable upper stage ever developed. Coupled with the reusable first stage, these technologies provide New Glenn customers with unprecedented payload launch capabilities. This position will support all aspects of program management to include cost, schedule, technical design, and risk management as well as working with Blue Origin internal organizations and suppliers to deliver qualified systems.
We are looking for someone to apply their technical expertise, leadership skills, and commitment to quality to positively impact safe human spaceflight. Passion for our mission and vision is required!
** Responsibilities:
*** Program Management – Plan and coordinate the resources necessary to successfully design, build, execute testing, and certify upgrades for the New Glenn second stage payload fairing and/or fixed adapters.
* Review and approve design concepts, drawings, analysis, test plans, qualification plans, manufacturing and build plans, processes and procedures in support of developing flight ready hardware.
* Responsible for reviewing and reporting on monthly cost and schedule variances, corrective actions and supporting finance and schedule updates.
* Provide technical and programmatic leadership by supporting staffing plans, hiring, and training plans.
* Provide daily support, guidance, and management of the payload fairing and fixed adapter upgrades and studies team.
* Work with design and manufacturing teams to identify and resolve technical issues throughout the product lifecycle.
* Develop project summary presentations for internal reviews and team meetings.
* Drive execution of complex development programs on budget and schedule while maintaining production operations.
* Establish and maintain regular business rhythm, consistent products, action tracking, and consolidate information for effective decision making.
* Develop efficient program management reporting for program and company level reviews.
* Act as a liaison between various internal/external businesses partners and process owners.
* Collaborate with other Blue Origin business units for requirements and interface management, programmatic collaboration, and qualification approval.
** Minimum Qualifications**:
* Experience managing a highly dynamic and development program with an approximate budget of $10-20M.
* Engineering experience with detail design, analysis, build, test, and qualification of flight hardware.
* Experience hiring, training, allocating resources, and managing a multi-site team.
* B.S. in an aerospace, mechanical, or systems engineering-related field, with 5+ years of complex product development experience.
* Program and technical leadership experience in an aerospace development environment with experience in full lifecycle development of aerospace systems, designing, deploying, and supporting one or more flight systems.
* Highly organized leader with excellent technical written and verbal communication skills, with demonstrated track record of resourcefulness, strong business and technical judgement, and a bias for action from their previous assignments.
