The OpportunityThis opportunity with Black & Veatch offers the chance to collaborate with multidisciplinary project teams within the Technology, Commercial & Industrial Market Sector, supporting Grid projects such as Overhead Transmission Line, while building critical infrastructure for today’s and tomorrow’s challenges. Structural Engineering Technicians contribute to the design, analysis, and detailing of structural components and systems that support these advanced industrial and commercial facilities.
The Virtual Design & Data Solutions (VDDS) Staff Engineering Technician plays a key role in supporting the development of high-quality engineering deliverables for these complex infrastructure projects. Under general supervision, this position performs technical tasks requiring advanced knowledge of engineering principles and practices, with a focus on creating and modifying structural models, drawings, and details using advanced techniques in industry standard design tools, such as AutoCAD, Micro Station, and PLS-CADD.
Provides technical guidance and may offer directions to other engineering professionals and technicians to ensure quality and consistency across project outputs.
- Functions in a project engineering technician capacity.
- Under general direction, support engineering and design teams by developing and modifying technical deliverables.
- Apply foundational engineering principles and established design practices to create moderately complex design concepts and solutions.
- Utilize digital tools and design software (e.g., CAD, BIM, 3D modeling) to create, modify, and maintain technical documentation, drawings, and project deliverables.
- Provide technical guidance and may offer directions to other engineering professionals and technicians to ensure quality and consistency across project outputs.
- Apply knowledge of standards, systems, document control, departmental guides, applicable codes and BV policies and procedures.
- Review project requirements and accurately determine the correct format and contents of the required deliverables.
- Proactively apply BV Quality Program to deliverables. Demonstrate personal accuracy and support continuous improvement and change management efforts.
- Review design inputs to ensure consistency. Assist in ensuring deliverables are in compliance with the specific codes and standards suitable for the project.
- Apply basic engineering principles and established design practices in developing moderately complex design concepts and deliverables.
- Begin to apply judgment and make decisions with respect to deliverables and input interpretation.
