The City and County of Denver supports a hybrid workplace model. Employees work where needed, at a job site several days a week and off-site as needed. In this position you can expect to report to the Denver Wastewater Building (2000 W 3rd. Ave., Denver, CO 80223) on in-office days. Employees must work within the state of Colorado on their off-site days.

The Infrastructure Delivery Division – Bridge Office has an opening for an Engineering Specialist. This position would be part of a larger 17-person team working with engineers, project managers, inspectors, skilled tradesmen, and business administrators. As an Engineering Specialist, you will have an opportunity to oversee structural plan reviews for capital improvement projects (CIP), development projects, bond projects, and lead bridge capital 6-year planning efforts.
Your role, as an Engineering Specialist, is to serve as the technical subject matter expert (SME) for bridge engineering standards, details, plan review, and project programming. Specifically, you will also be able to:
Responsibilities- Assign and manage workload for up to two direct reports - provide support, guidance, document performance, and provide feedback for continual growth and development.
- Serve as the department’s primary structural plan reviewer. Ensuring CIP, development, bond, and partner agency projects meet the City and County of Denver bridge code requirements, standards, and best practices.
- Assist citywide as the primary SME for all city-related bridge projects. Work with project managers to successfully deliver bridge projects.
- Support in-house repair crews to successfully maintain citywide vehicular, pedestrian and railroad bridges. Provide repair details, sketches, and technical as required, to support structural repairs, and preventative maintenance activities. Support during emergency response by providing rapid structural assessments and repair recommendations.
- Assist the bridge team’s asset manager, as needed, to interpret inspection data and prioritize bridges for preventative maintenance, rehabilitations, and replacements.
- Lead the team’s 6-year capital planning efforts for bridges. Work with the team’s manager and supervisor to align capital funding and project manager staffing to successfully execute the team’s projects.
