Senior Mechanical Engineer
• Denver, Colorado, United States

AECOM is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to support our multi‑disciplinary design team addressing the most challenging engineering tasks in power generation. AECOM's broad technical capabilities, global footprint and experience in executing large scale projects uniquely position us to lead in traditional steam, thermal power generation and advanced nuclear technologies.

This includes being part of the first‑of‑a‑kind program with AECOM partners advancing the innovative stellarator technology to the world.

For this role, AECOM offers the freedom and flexibility to work remotely and/or be located at a variety of Energy offices located in multiple locations across the United States.

The successful candidate will have a high level of understanding and experience in mechanical engineering design and technology principles for process/mechanical and generation projects.

Responsibilities
  • Responsible for the mechanical engineering design work on assigned projects
  • Serve as lead engineer on all size projects maintaining responsibility for deliverable development
  • Coordination with the mechanical piping design team to direct completion of engineering drawings
  • Multi‑discipline collaboration on the development of equipment general arrangements, P&’s, isometrics, asset and tie‑in lists, orthographic, etc.
  • Provides technical expertise for risk assessments, due diligence and other studies presenting complex technical solutions to clients.
  • Generate applicable mechanical engineering deliverables to support all phases of scope development – Feasibility through Detail Design
  • Develop construction and equipment specifications and material requisitions
  • Home office support of projects during construction, start‑up, and commissioning
  • Performs quality control reviews of work developed by others
  • Participate in project and client meetings
  • Interact with vendors, regulatory agencies and contractors
  • Assist with internal and external presentations
  • Occasional travel to client and/or project sites

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements
  • BA/BS in Mechanical Engineering or related field + 6 years of related experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.
  • Experience in Mechanical Engineering for Power Generation Facilities
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • Professional Engineer (P.E.) license
  • 12+ years of experience with Power Generation Facilities
  • 5+ years of experience as project technical mechanical lead/mechanical engineer of record
  • Experience in engineer and design of Combined Cycle Plants and Nuclear Generation Stations
  • Expert familiarity with industry codes and standards (API, ASME, PIP, ANSI, ASTMs, etc).
  • Expert experience with specifying mechanical equipment (e.g. rotating and static equipment) and piping material specifications
  • Familiarity with diverse metallurgy
  • Startup and Commissioning Field Experience
  • Strong experience with engineering software packages:
    Thermoflow package, Hysys, Caesar II, Pipe‑Flo (or other hydraulic modeling application), Aspen Tech applications and/or Applied Flow Technology applications
  • Experience working in collaborative model environments (e.g. Navisworks, BIM 360)
  • Demonstrated experience in participating in complex, multi‑discipline programs/projects
  • Successful experience working in remote and multi‑discipline teams
